Up close you can't because the particles of dust are spread out around you, it's people off in the distance that can see its shape.

It depends upon how condensed the tornado is. They can very well often be seen up that close, even while being directly inside of it. Watch some of the amazing video of Tornado intercepts, especially the ones intercepted by The Dominator owned by Reed Timmer! @@jeffisaliar

As long as no one is injured they'll be fine. Assuming the have the insurances in place. Most businesses carry loss of income insurance - this helps with payroll and other expenses.

It's been close to 40 years since I last witnessed a twister in person; I still feel terror watching a video like this. Well, it was at night, power was out and all we could do was hunker down in a flimsy apartment and listen to the sounds. The next day, a field nearby looked like it had been plowed by a madman. Clumps of sod pulled out of the ground, thrown all over the place. Strangely, a trailer-park a mile away was untouched! There was a cliche in the Waco area that tornadoes seek out trailer-parks and Churches Chicken outlets.

I was in the great tornado outbreak of 1978 in Bossier City Louisiana that tore up Bossier around 2 or 3 AM December 3rd. There was 11 tornados that morning that tore up things all the way up into Arkansas. Like you said once you have been in something like that you never forget.

Tornadoes have been known to make a direct path to trailer parks and to glass windowed car dealerships. That tornado 40 years ago must have been defective.

Looks like Tennessee needs new building codes. That was just a weak not even fully formed small tornado and the funeral home is gone.

This was a strong ef2 tornado and it only looked like its badely formed because you can barely notice the dust particles or smth of a tornadk when its that close and only facing the ground but later in the video near the top middle you can see the tornado still there

It looks like the tornado was off the right hand side of screen traveling diagonally up left towards top off screen, you see the building behind it lose its roof shortly after

If it was right, the wind pull would’ve went the other way. The tornado was on the left side of the screen. Then traveled up the middle of the screen

I’m pretty sure that was the rear flanking downdraft that hit the building (aka ghost train) and not the tornado. They can be very intense.

Meantime, this "incident" simply sends the mortician back to "Step One" of their profession, just working from a trailer instead of inside the damaged building, yah? (Step One: assemble, clean and prepare the human shell for viewing or burial. And filling out the accompanying paperwork, no doubt.) Then the business owner files a claim with their insurance company, and voila! Life goes on...for most of us.

I think that building suffered more from poor construction than from a tornado because that so-called tornado wasn’t much of a tornado at all…more like straight-line wind.

It was a tornado. If you look off in the distance, after the funeral home’s roof comes off, the tornado hits a house. Also during a tornado, you will notice a shift in wind direction. As the tornado approaches, the wind is pulling apart the porch of the funeral home. As it passes, the roof of the house is pulled off in a different direction. Also the debris is flying in two different directions as it passes. Straight line winds, don’t change direction.

Body count is expected to rise as digging continues into the night in the adjacent grave yard." I'll show myself out...But in all seriousness, I do hope for the best for everyone involved. Its weird, the trees right next the tornado didn't break, as well as all the other buildings (which look like metal buildings, easy to destroy) literally right next the funeral home are just fine. I'm afraid the funeral home was built very poorly, the roof cover literally flew away without any resistance all at once, clearly indicating that it was not nailed properly. The roof collapsed because it was not properly attached to the house as well as thin poles. Then the building literally LIFT as the tornado goes away. Listen this is not a f5 tornado far from it, probably a F2 looking at the dmg around the funeral home. Its crazy to think so little precautions are taken in areas full of tornadoes and severe thunder storms.

I'd say that front porch roof structure was not built to code. That wind was not that strong. No anchors, probably just wood trusses nailed to support headers. Just waiting for a breeze to rip it off.

So you live in a stone castle I guess? This tornado was rated EF1 (110mph). A little more than a slight breeze.

Brick and stone buildings don't fare much better when the tornado is strong enough. Heck, brick and stone can be even more dangerous when they turn into debris. As soon as those winds catch on to any corner sticking out of any structure, it's just going to pull and pull til it tears it up, just as it did here. If you can come up with a better structure that adheres to local building codes, please be sure to share it for the good of all in tornado alley.

The twister seems to enter the camera's field of view from the left side at around 0:14. It is really hard to make out the funnel. It appears to have passed behind the front row of trees.

I grew up in hurricane land along the southeast coast, and compared to tornadoes hurricanes are quite polite, "Pardon me, but do you mind if I come by in 2 days to ruin your life"; while tornadoes are cruel and evil so and sos that drop on you without preamble.

You can literally see the tornado in the top middle of the screen near the end of the video + radar + abrupt strong winds out of nowhere that lasted a few seconds and the motion too doesnt seem like straight line winds

Actually, the tornado approached from the left, so it was to the right of the red car as it drove past the road. The tornado was moving left to right. The winds in front of the tornado are what pulled the porch cover off, then ripped off the roof of the funeral home.
