I like how it's a "real-life" environment---not a pre-fabricated perfect/ideal/brand new window situation. He shows how to realistically fill in gaps left while applying the caulk, how to add caulk to a caulk line and, how to smooth the caulk in both directions. That's what you actually come across when you caulk.

I think what you mean is this was demonstrated with a 'real-life' setting v/s within a a 'controlled laboratory' setting.

This video saved me $11,000 replacing all the windows in my house. They were drafty as can be and at 30 years old, I thought they just needed to be updated. I bought $20 in caulk and sealed all of them up, my house is so much warmer at night. You da man!

Thanks for the video! I've recently moved into a condo with horrible drafts coming in now that it's gotten colder and windier. Even my house built in the 60s didn't have as much air coming in. I'm also having issues with smoke smell coming in through the cracks around the windows from a woman who smokes in the parking lot.. I work from home and have been getting a migraine from it every day this last week and it stinks in here. I hope that helps a tiny bit at least. This was super helpful. Will definitely be heading to home depot this week!

For an all-wood window with six or so small panes (to the side of the front door), do you caulk between each of the panes and the wood?
@del_6193 жыл бұрын
You should calk wherever the gaps in the pains are. I know your comment was is a month old so you probably figured it out. If there is gap where the panes are letting the outside elements in you should seal it then paint it if you decide to.

Id like to give few pointers. First of all get rid of this gun, when you need to caulk few lines it willdo the job when you have todo lots of caulking it is a piece of crap, at least oil it a bit.. Second, try to feed fast eaven beed, beed must be under the nozzle all time, if any starts toget out from sides, clean nozzle right away. Third, start with corners moveing out from the corner, never end in the corner.

@seanbrown942 Жыл бұрын
Not bad but I don't cut my tip at such an extreme angle. A slight angle allows you to just keep the gun straight and you get a more consistent bead. Also you forgot to spit on it. Spitting on your finger keeps the caulk from sticking to your finger and it smoothes out the rough edges.

"Caulking is pretty easy to do". You've obviously never seen me caulk. I get it everywhere and it looks like a comedy skit. After watching your video, I'm thinking part of my problem is I bought the cheapest caulk gun in HD and it will not lay a bead like as smooth as yours. I have to keep cranking mine and more caulk comes out the backside of the tube than the tip. lol Edit: Came back to say I caulked my windows after watching your video and did the best caulk job I've ever done. The difference was I bought a better quality gun and I was very conscious of how much pressure I used with my finger to spread it out. Prior to watching your video, I used to press hard. Thanks!!!

Please dont caulk you windows like this or with 230 for that matter.. 230 should only be used outside, its a waiste of money using it indoors.. Dap's alex plus and 1/4" backerrod is how it should be done. The backerrod helps insulate. Which these windows had no insulation at all from the looks of the light shining through. Just all and all a hacky DIY video. Not good habits.
