I would also mention a 4 lobe bit is essential to get an accurate hole diameter when hand drilling

Is that the Rocpec? Is it pretty sturdy? I was considering getting one for splitting stone by hand

Yes... Petzl Rocpec. It would be hard work to use one for splitting rock. I assume you mean with feather and wedge. It's hard enough using one to place a bolt. Maybe a standard cold chisel would work as well for rock removal by hand.

You'll want to choose a bit to match the size of bolt you're installing. In this example the bit is 3/8-inch diameter and 6 inches long.
