A playthrough of Data East's 1990 NES game, Caveman Games.
Played through all of the games as Gronk.
Caveman Games is an "olympics" style game, like Track & Field, California Games, Snoopy's Silly Sports Spectacular! or Crash 'n' the Boys Street Challenge, in that it presents you with several events - think Mario Party-like minigames - each presenting you with a unique challenge. After all six games have been finished, the results are tallied and a champion is crowned.
Unlike the more "serious" multiplayer/multi-game competition titles on the NES, though, Caveman Games relies on its sense of humor as much as it does anything else, and it pulls it off nicely. It's a port of Dynamix' popular 1988 PC title (Caveman Ugh-lympics), and the graphics hold up nicely with the large cartoony sprites with some pretty hilarious animations. I'm a huge fan of the mate-toss, especially because of that funky chicken dance your "mate" does if you throw her far enough.
If you liked Track & Field, you'll like this fine. There isn't much new to see here, but it's all solid and pretty amusing with a couple of friends gathered for a round or two.
I would've loved to have seen a spin-off with Joe & Mac like this, especially since Data East handled the NES version!
