Gitzo uses race car technology in their tripods!
cazillo.com/art...
Who knew that Gitzo uses some of the same compounds and materials as a race car's motor! This makes them last much, much longer and work smoother than any other tripod. They have a full line of models that are built to last a lifetime. Keep shooting!

I was thinking Gitzo is like the Apple of the tripod world. It's more about the brand than the quality.

@@Wrecksy Have any of you actually _owned_ one? I've had three of their tripods over the last 10 years, and two monopods. I sold my old metal 'pod and replaced it with a GT5532LS, sold that a couple of years ago, only to replace it with exactly the same 'pod, because the two I initially replaced it with came nowhere near its stability and reliability. I also had a GM5541 monopod, which I sold due the same reason as the big tripod; downsizing, but again found the one I replaced it with (a Benro MMA28C) to have nowhere near the strength or stability of the Gitzo, so I returned that, and replaced it with what I now have; the GM4562, the same one seen in this video. Yes, they're more expensive than most, but you do get what you pay for. They have never once let me down in the field.

I bought a reporter model with a pan, tilt and rotate head about 40 years ago and while a bit heavy compared with today's Gitzo it has never failed me. It's almost embarrasing how little I paid for it back then. But like the man said, "If you want the best..."

ZOMEI makes the Z688 model and others for around $60.00 that do the same things...the exorbitant price difference makes no sense!

Obviously you have never owned a gitzo. The only tripods that compare such as the really right stuff, foba, miller are also worth big bucks. If money is an issue there is always the option of buying used tripods.Even the old Gitzo aluminum tripods are classy and will last you a lifetime. If you only have a $35 dollar camera i can understand, but if you have thousands of dollars in a camera and lenses you would have rocks in your head to use a cheap tripod. My first tripod many years ago was a cheap one but i soon learned the error of my ways.

The Zomei Z688 maxes out at 13kg load. A Gitzo of the same or less weight (GT3 & 4 series) can handle up to double that load, and some (GT5 series) weighing not much more can take up to 3 times what the Zomei can. Your comparison is way off.

@@richyearle007 I'd add Novoflex to your list that compares to a Gitzo tripod. However Novoflex calls their products "a camera supporting system" and it is as expensive as a Gitzo. I really love Novoflex' flexibility. 😍

Mine went Rusty!!!!!!!!!!! Got told they use Stainless Steel only, Don't think so, S/Steel coated maybe as magnet stuck to the bolts

Solid stainless steel will attract magnets like any other steel. Perhaps you're thinking of aluminum.

Great tripods but way too expensive .. don't need a ferrari ... hate twist locks anyways ... 4 sections per leg means you need to twist 12 twist locks... maybe one day the prices will come down

If you are a novice/hobbyist, then yes, it would be silly to pay for a high-end tripod that you would not use regularly. But if you are a professional, or even a passionate enthusiast, you depend on your equipment to endure the rigors of daily use and last for potentially a lifetime. It's nice to make a wise investment and never have to think about it again. Gitzo products are among the best that money can buy. Btw, the better "twist locks" can all be turned simultaneously (3 at once - watch a video) and are a huge improvement over the old cheap and noisy snap-locks.

michael b You’ve clearly never used a Gitzo tripod before. Their twist locks only require a quarter inch turn to lock and unlock. If your hand is big enough, you can undo all the locks on one leg with a single twist. Much less fuss than using latches. Try a Gitzo and you’ll be singing a different tune. Also your math is wrong; four sections per leg would be nine locks. There are (n - 1) locks for every n sections.
