Erik from Farpoint Farms Covers 3 cheap options for using your mobile CB or HAM radio setup as a base station.
** One Option I didn't cover is the use of a car or motorcycle battery hooked up to a trickle charger. While this can and will work, its not really a long term solution and poses some hazard of fire if the vapors from the battery ignite.

Thanks for the info on antenna information. Watched a bunch of your videos I actually own that hard to find Radio Shack antenna in perfect condition. It came off the roof when my wife back in the day and I split up, had my brother hold it for me for probably 19 years.

No problem. I haven't given up of the other thing, But a VERY bad apple was trying to make my life miserable, so to protect my rear, I've had to back off. It sucks there are some really mentally ill people on the internet, but it is what it is. You should defiantly get a base setup! I'd say I use my base station setup 5 times as much as my mobiles. With a little luck you'll be chatting it up with some hidden locals you didn't realize were out there in no time. Although I have an actual base antenna (Antron A99) you can make one out of bare wire for less than $30.00 that will work just as well.

Watts always amps X volts. 10 amps at 12 volts is 120 watts. Even an unmodded SSB (AM 4watts/SSB 12 watts) will only use a tiny fraction of the available 120 watts. Yes, I know there is an additional load just to operate the equip. aside from the transmit power, but it isn't much. A 10 amp power supply is more than enough to power any CB ever made.
@daienaa

Yes and no. My radio wants at least 10 amp and with that the power supply will be working hard. So to be safer it needs 12 amp at least.

I have a cheap power supply in exactly the same metal case, but the 15v S-450-15 version. Paid £16.99 delivered in the UK, from a UK seller. As the voltage can be adjusted +/-10% on these power supplies, the 15v model is easily tweaked to 13.8v, which is likely a little beyond reach of the 12v models..

Still using the old battery with a charger connected to it and vent the battery properly. Unless you're in a super tight confined space, the battery vapors shouldn't pose a problem. Using a 30A power supply is a great way to go unless your AC circuit's amperage can't handle the load.

Good evening. I am looking to hook up my over 40 year old Sears 23 channel mobile. I like the idea of the 3 amp regulated power supply. My CB has a red and black wire coming out of the unit which I would match with same colors on the power supply. But I see an in-line fuse on your set up. My current set up has in-line fuse also and both red and black wires are attached to cigarette lighter plug. This is how it was set up when I used in my car some 40 years ago. Is the in-line fuse necessary?

Fairpoint Farms 2 questions. Can you run 2 pieces of equipment on one amp?? Looking at a 30 amp pyramid power supply. Or is it a separate power source for each item. Like a cb radio and linear! And would a 30 amp pyramid power supply be not a good choice for a mobile cb? Got an old cb with ssb but thinking of buying a peaked and tuned galaxy 979. Thanks Dave
@FarpointFarms

As long as the total power requirement doesn't exceed the 30amps you should be fine running more than one thing on it. A mobile (stock) radio should draw only about 3 to 5 amps so you would be fine running two of them off one power supply.

Quick question man. If you had say 4000 watts on a base station, It might reach across the US or other parts of the world right? Does that necessarily mean it will equally receive that good? I've heard a guy talking at least 4 states over on 4000 watts. Right at 1000 miles base to my mobile. Then he turned it down to 2000 watts. I could still hear him like nothing changed. Obviously I could not even come close to talking back to him on my Stryker 955 but that was till impressive to hear CB getting out that far. The question is does all the added power add reception or just transmit?

@@FarpointFarms Thanks! That's what I was thinking. I heard a guy talking CB on 4000 watts once and he was 4 states above me.
