I just got some Evapo Rust to use on my 3210V tank. Took me forever to find this video. I vaguely remembered you mentioning the results of the treatment, but wanted to revisit your findings. I agree with comments below about not sealing the tank., by the way. My H-D manual even instructs to store with a full tank to avoid condensation. Judging from the rust you pulled from that tank, looks like good advise. I've stored it that way since new & will certainly continue to do so after watching this. I hope my 3210 tank comes out as good. Thanks Zippo

I've got to do Mini Lords tank to get rid of just surface dust/rust. When you do your 3210 tank, don't be surprised if you end up with pin holes. But don't fret! you can solder them all in with good results. Remember...Save the Evapo-Rust! It's good until it no longer works and can be used over and over. I just used a paint strainer to take out the solids each time I use it. It gets darker in color with each use, but it's great stuff! And yes....don't seal your tanks! Not unless you want a big mess on your hands. That's why I chose to stay away from the Red Kote on Big Bill. Cheers Sir Pipe! Zip~

I did save it & also used a paint strainer to filter it. The tank is pretty clean, it only had minor rust, but at some point it appears it was patched & sealed. Now some of the sealer is flaking off, & that's what I have to get cleaned out.

I just did mine 0n a1974 cb 350 four i used metal rescue it came out spotless i dont want to coat the tank either i have in the past and had very good luck with kbs but i dont want to chance it on this bike all i do is mix a little 2 stroke oil in about every 3rd tank and it keeps it from developing flash rust so far so good

Thanks for sharing this one, Zip. Technology is great until it's not and it's so frustrating because it's always some little thing (like forgetting a dot in an email address or some other such foolishness.) I used to top my tank off after a ride to force that warm, moist air out to prevent rusting, and yeah you're so right....i never use ethanol fuels on any of my vehicles (unless I can't find it on vacation and even then I run that stuff out as soon as I can.)

I use RTV occasionally on non pressurised oil areas but I would never use it in a carb. You would know that. Interesting #2&3 were the ones that needed a bit more work. Can you go to dual fuel filters and just use the tank?

Use a pump to suck the excess sealant from the tank. Simple description: pump inlet with hose fitted into the lid of a ball jar, second hose fitted into same lid, and other end this hose terminates into the fuel tank, into the excess sealant. Ball jar act as a collection bottle for the excess sealant, preventing the pump from clogging with sealant. Ball jar penetrations must be air tight, and have a capacity greater than the excess sealant. We use a paristaltic pump, but have used a windshield washer pump when removing POR15 from a tank. Just do a trial test first to check your fittings and pump. Greg.

i never used red kote.... yet. i have watched videos of it being used and installed,if the tank is clean, then dont sweat it. However,in the mean time you need something to prevent flash rust until your ready to put gas in it.i use permatex high tack spray on carb bowl gaskets so they seal and stick. ay overspray will wash off with gas and not plug anything up

Wow !! lucked out again BIG TIME!! piece of cake i thought sure you would have to at least get a couple of bowls they are fantastic! the red coat is crappy, way too thick and it does pool, like You said that is why i insist on the Gold standard it is a better vicosity for all the weird angles and curves. just keep it rolling and turning the stuff is thin and as long as you keep it moving i have never had any problem but i have several tanks with red coat fail and the Cream. is not worth a shit either the red coat and the cream do work well on automobiles and larger flatter tanks with lots of access /draining holes sender units/fill spouts/ect. but for small bike /engine tanks the standard is the best !! just when you think you have it all swished around once take a 3 minute break, then do it again, and again. then start dumping it out while rolling and dumping put it right back in the can and when you think its all out try again i always let it cure upside down/petcock up. the most thinest on the tank is usually the top from condesation. and this leaves the bottom nice and the built in reserve if it has one good to go and not filled up with all the tank sealer. Please coat it as the tank has got to be thin as hell with 45 years of use/neglect and we sure dont have GOOD gas anymore. take care, bob

So I know what your talking about on the tank, if its clean enough and there is enough metal leave the Red Kote out. Also what is with the colors on your videos? Are you filming in HDR or something? Cheers!

I don't know! They went funky on me for sure. I'll reset the camera and see if that cures it. Rode for a couple hours yesterday after getting the bike all legal and had no issues what so ever. The Red Kote can sit on the shelf for another project. I'll drain and inspect the tank after a couple tanks full have gone through it and see if any flash rust has materialized. If not, I'm calling it good. If so, then I'll take another route...either epoxy or The Gold Standard I believe it's called. Cheers Sir Moto!! Zip~

I like that idea, I think its a good call. If there is no rust you are good and just ride and enjoy! Ah.. but ride safe!
