A model train store could be pulling out of the station for the last time. Vancouver's Central Hobbies has been a place for mini-train enthusiasts to let off some steam since the 1980s but it maybe closing this June. We spoke to owner Hal Kinsey about his passion. Take a look.

I remember the one on New Westminster called Pacific Scale Rail. that was also my favorite. These guys would all come to Cameron Center every year to hold the annual train model festival but recently not sure what happened to that.

That was a good one as well. It moved up the block (Auto Trader moved in) than unfortunately closed. A couple blocks away was another decent model (trains, etc.) store.

This is how cities are draying. This is sad. Ecomerce is killing relations and passions. For example. I have one shop in my region when I could go and buy parts and materials to for 3d printing. Everything I could buy in Internet but only there I could sea what I am buying and ask a questions. Every time I go there I learn something useful. They could advice me if I have a problem.

@@llywelynddraig853 Light bulb was improvement for the society. Death of the city streets is no improvement. Maybe in US where there are lack of normal vibrant cities is no difference anyway but in Europe this is devastating.

@drex44 E-commerce killed Niagara Hobby in Buffalo 4-5 years ago, and everything they had is now being sold off. Aside from the building still being there, only their caboose remains, albeit under a wrap and probably with a new owner. That place was my favorite hobby store to go to, and a staple of my childhood. I loved looking at their model train displays and model race cars. I really miss Niagara Hobby.

$325 for a train!! 😮😮😮

And they are all made in China now because it's so much cheaper to manufacture them there! (Note: a $325 locomotive does have a decoder chip in it. A regular DC loco would be $100 less.)

Best way to do it is to buy a DC loco and put a speaker, and decoder in it

Ok so build a flying train, so why didn't anyone build a flying train from the movie " Back to the future" and made it a medical flying transport system? The future is ahead of us, so what's next?

Thanks for this, but CBC, you’re no longer a “public” broadcast service, as you state in your description. Now you’re a mouthpiece for the government. Oh my beloved CBC, once so much greater.

CBC is public because it wastes - I mean uses - our taxpayer money. Just don't try and use the comments section. Very woke, very repressive.

These model trains are cool. the only problem is each of these high quality freight cars costed $30 each so to actually imitate a real life locomotive pulling 100 freight cars is going to cost you over $3000. on top of that you have to buy the locomotives that are in the hundred dollar range. on top of that you have to have a big space that can host your models. on top of that you have to buy the rails to make a railroad layout. that will cost another thousands of dollars. Too much. This was way back before the Skytrain ran through the area. I would take a metrotown bus from Burnaby. Then take the skytrain and walk a mile from Broadway station just to buy a $30 freight car that I saved up in highschool. All my hard earned money went into this $30 model. Good times though. I remember my dad didn't like this guy all because he denied him a refund lol.
