2016 California All State Music Education Conference ( CASMEC ) California Band Director Association ( CBDA ) All-State High school Concert band performed Lightning Field by John Mackey in San Jose Performing Art Center on February 14. Conductor was Sharon Lavery.

I'm a hs junior. Played this at all region clinic about a month ago. Was an absolute blast of a piece. It was nice to have bari sax be heard, and the low brass killed it. (I play a lot of stuff, but was on tuba for this.)

You should check out some of the Texas all-state bands. It's actually kind of freaky how good they are - they played Wine Dark Sea in 2017.

We just got this song in band class today, it’s FAST, and really hard. I’m trumpet 2, but that high A at the end sounds difficult.

The mallet parts for the piece made me want to cry man, cool piece but don't make me sight read this thing ever again
