oh man, what a huge amount of rr ties to shred!! that would have taken lots of days to shred!i`m sure that the knives needed to be changed because the brackets and bolts were still in the ties. amazing machines which can shred those hard wooden ties. amazing

"how dose the blades handle the metal plates and bolts?" My guess is that this machine is a hammer mill. It beats the ties in to smaller chips, there would not be any knives to be messed up. A hammer mill quite often used in shredding cars.

They were coated in creosote. A known carcinogen linked directly to cancer. Hence the reason for the shredding and not for public use.

With all that toxic creosote in those ties, how do you recycle it into mulch? What breaks it down so that it's inert/non-toxic?
@The76Malibu Жыл бұрын
I've never heard of it being used for mulch because of the toxicity. Usually it is burned in power plants.

How does it get through the big metal parts without messing up the blades?
@kurashal-quds73527 жыл бұрын
Toms Chevelle I used to operate a CBI grinder almost exactly like this one. Those railroad plates would have destroyed the grinding teeth and the screen! Granted, my work was in 2004 - 2006, and they may have improved... The wood was sold as boiler fuel to the local paper mills, who generate all their own electricity...
