I vividly remember when I was about 16 years old my late father suddenly yelling for me to come into the living room. He said son come quick and listen. This, he said is probably the greatest country song of all time. I stood and listened to George Jones sing He Stopped Loving her Today on TV. (before the internet and when TV only had 12 or so channels) And as a ACDC, Motley Crue loving teen I was taken aback and absolutely floored. Thank you Dad and thank you George for forever turning me onto REAL country music.

George wasn't the greatest living country singer. He was the greatest country singer EVER! I used to pray for him. My daddy was an alcoholic, and God saved him. I wanted the same for him. Couldn't imagine him missing heaven. I was so thrilled to hear his testimony, and his last words to Nancy. Knowing he's in heaven, with my Mama and Daddy who so loved him, is something I'm so grateful for, bc it's proof once again of God's endless mercy and grace! One day we'll all sing praise together!

"He Stopped Loving Her Today" is my favorite George Jones song. Most of the old time singers were raised in the church, but let popularity, fame, & money take away all Christian influences. I'm thankful he lived long enough to change his ways. John 14:6.

Who can not help but respect a man that doesn't brush his actions under the rug; or try and blame them on the way he was, or was not raised as a child. I wasn't raised around Country Music, but one has to give this legend his due, there will never be another one quite like him. What was his song, "Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes" for his many fans I don't think anyone can.

Just because someone is not good for you doesn’t mean you ever stop loving them. Yes, Nancy possibly saved his life, but there are different kinds of love. I’m sure he loved Nancy, but a lot of people have someone that is the love of their life even though they can’t make it work.

@@yvonnewade9801 that's the honest truth .. I loved someone so deeply and honestly... I have never been able to be myself completely myself with anyone else.. unembarrassed or unashamed... but things just didn't work out.. we weren't good for each other.. but like you said I love him still to this day. I have been married to someone else for 26 yrs. And mostly happy.. he was what I needed in my life.. and I love him dearly. Like you said you can love more than one person.. and there's different kinds of love . If people don't agree then they either have had to go through anything .. or aren't being honest with themselves

I'm glad he was able to seek God and change his life at the end. I just kept waiting for him to give a clear salvation testimony, where he asked the Lord to save him from his sins. He came close to expressing it, but stopped just short. I hope he did in private when he had that little talk with Jesus, I just wish it was more clear. I love this man. There is no one who can fill his shoes. He cannot be imitated. He was the heart and soul of country music. I hope that he put all his faith and trust in Jesus and is singing in Heaven today. RIP George Jones.

It's nice to go back then. LOVE LOVE country and western. We all have our demons one way or the other. But we give thanks to our Redeemer, for He never leave us or forsake us. The devil us a liar.

I was so memorized by possums voice. And now being a man today, I would always tell my buddies that I was born in the wrong era cause all I listen to is ol country songs, but I had 1 buddy tell me that I wasn’t born in the wrong era, It’s young cats like me who keep these old country songs and singers alive…. George has always been my favorite country singer_I'm a musician mostly Rock and Blues. I played in a band doing mostly Tom Petty, Aerosmith, Beatles etc. when on a Sunday at a lake near Houston we had done my favorite Ray Charles song-a few songs later after many rock songs we started Bartender Blues. Within 20 seconds, a possum came out from one side of the outdoor stage and scurried across in front of us all! Guitar player and I traded looks in amazement and then began to laugh out loud! That was about 15 years ago and we still laugh about it. Incidentally, I lived 5 miles from Saratoga, Texas -birthplace of George Jones for about 8 yrs back in the 90's.

George was like a brother to me and my husband. We loved him as much as any family member we have. We knew him from the early 60s until his death but we didnt get to see him much after the early 80s. My husband became a christian during our close friendship with George and that was during the time George was messed up on cocaine and George resented my husband becoming a christian for we would no longer go to any clubs that he was playing and he always wanted us with him at all his concerts. I'm so thankful he finally woke up and turned his life over to Jesus. This interview with him is so wonderful!!!! To hear him confess his wrong doings and how he had mistreated people that loved him was a real blessing. My husband witnessed Jesus to him soooooo many times, but the time was just not yet right. It took George( he himself) having a serious talk with Jesus to turn his life around. Thank God for the wreck at the bridge for that made him see the light. It showed him that the lord meant business with him. It showed him that jesus did what he ask him to do. He didnt hit him in the head with a hammer, but let him hit a bridge that knocked some sense in his head. We miss him so much and still grieve every day over him being gone. The most comforting thought is knowing that he died a saved man . What a blessing. Thank you Jesus, you and you alone was his savior. George will always be loved by us. He did a lot of special things with us and it will never be forgotten. GEORGE RECORED AND RELEASED 73 songs my husband wrote for him. Tammy recorded 35 songs he wrote. We were also close to Tammy. We toured with them the whole time they were married. Then he married my sister Linda ( she was his 4th wife) . We were with them almost every day during their time together which was almost 8 years. So we knew him well. He recorded with my sister in law Melba Montgomery, they dated for quite a while and toured together for a few years. So I know the life of George Jones like the back of my hand. I knew all his family and all his children and are still very close to his two sons and Georgette. Let's all give Georgette a hand for her following in the footsteps of her mom and dad, and is making her mark in the music business. I pray God will bless her in the same way he blessed her mom and dad.
