I bought a f4i with a rusted over flow and it was rusted through inside tank, I simple put a gas approved rubber hose inside of the metal one, it took awhile to find just the right size but that was three years ago and no problems to date, it's my daily driver. The price for a new tank was almost more than I paid for bike. Thanks MD you always have good stuff! Steve F

As an owner of a 2004 600RR for the past 20 years it's not only the vent/drain hoses but also the fuel line itself you need to watch out for. The fuel line has a groove in the airbox and a clamp on the fuel tank. Make sure it gets back into both. The trick to raising and lowering these tanks is to; 1) As you raise the tank pull slack in the hoses from the bottom by removing them from the holding bracket. 2) Use a bungee to hold the tank by looping it around the tail pipe and then hook it in one of the holes on top of the tank. As you raise the tank feed slack to the hoses so you don't pull them off. Lowering the tank is where it gets tricky. WATCH your MAP vacuum hose on the (R) side. I can't tell you how many MIL lights and "my bike is running bad" threads we've answered and all it was was the MAP sensor vacuum hose was knocked off while lowering the tank. You'll need to be good at repackaging. Release the bungee and slowly lower the tank while you pull the hoses from the bottom so they don't get pinched. I use a zip-tie on the drain hose bib to help hold that drain line on. Watch your wiring harness on the (R) side as it likes to get caught underneath the tank and also watch your grommets at the tank bolts. Don't force things. If you have aftermarket devices or maybe a charge pigtail running under the tank watch those wires as well as they can get caught and pulled by fulcrum forces or crushed under the sub-frame/fender. One thing I'd like to mention is dirt dobbers or potter wasps. They can build a nest inside your hose within minutes of you leaving the garage door open. Let alone storing one outside for any length of time. So make sure you confirm the drain line works by blowing compressed air through it from time to time. You can also check for pin holes in your tank by plugging that drain line and see if the fuel tank is being pressurized with compressed air. We'll have to disagree on the PC issue. It is a tool and you make of it what you will. I wouldn't own this bike without one as Honda's horrible throttle lag almost drove me crazy the first few months of this bike. Recalibrating the TPS is ridiculously easy and, presto, no more throttle lag. You need to remember that in 2004 there was no such thing as flashing an ECU for this bike. But with a PCIII I can set the fuel map for my bike with my specific mods for my valve clearances and my BMC air filter. The problem is most users don't understand what they're buying let alone how the fuel mapping actually works. So if you're referring to users who buy them and then install some cookie cutter map, then yeah. They're useless to that user. But all of the serious buildings that I'm aware of use the PCV with an AT-300, and a POD300 to map and custom tune their bikes.

I find it funny when people by a RR bike and then put a power commander on for street riding. What? They spend money on pipes, air filter upgrade, air box mods and a power commander to try to get 3 hp or so more power. As if the RR bikes are not fast enough... Engineers do a good job making a good street riding bike, but some yahoo needs to over think the engineer because some marketing guys says "its the best." Good video brother, thanks for the tips!

coating the tank will work. My cbr600f4i had rust in the tank when I purchased got a killer deal and had only 2000 miles on it. Have had for it 5 years and still running like a champ. not sure of any issues that may occur down the road from coating the tank but seems to be going strong.

Hey Cody thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and incite.I have a unrelated question i have a 2015 cbr1000rr sp I have a high idle of 13 to 14 thousand and a little bit of a rough or uneven run just off of idle in gear and moving at a slow cruse with little or no load on the engine like neutral cruses .If this were a carberated older bike like what im used to it would feel like the carbs needed to be synced .Have you come across anything like this ?can these throttle bodies be synced ?

So true seen this many times on some of my customers bikes and they write it off as it was just a pos tank Honda used but it turned out to be caused by them or the previous owner or technician that serviced it last

Since watching this vid I've started squirting WD40 down that tube to displace any water and check if it's draining right. Do it at every oil change.

Can anyone help please I have a fzs1000 and the cold start is terrible my bike stalls 5 times until it runs but runs bad on idle for the first 5 minutes.... the choke doesn’t last long only 40 seconds and the choke plunger works ok. Thanks

Hey I know I’m late but I’m having an issue with my bike after an accident there’s now oil in the coolant but no coolant in the oil so I don’t thing it’s the head gasket the bike didn’t get hot after the crash so it couldn’t have warped. I’m thinning it’s the oil cooler seals where it’s going to the radiator but I’m not 100% if that’s how it is ok the 09cbr600rr I know it’s like that on the older models just looking for a little help don’t want to have to tare the whole motor out.

Hey there, not sure if you are still checking comments on here. Had a question, I have got a CBR600rr 07 model. I have gotten it majorly serviced and it runs really well. Though from time to time and it could be months apart. I will have an issue after riding the bike for about 2 hours if I'm doing a mountain ride. Where it will not let me rev past 6-7kRPM. It just chokes, like it physically can't go past that RPM. Ive taken it in to see if they can figure it out but when they looked at it they couldn't seem to find or recreate the issue at hand as it wasn't happening often. They mentioned it could be the fuel pump on the way out ( bike has 45,000kms and original fuel pump) Just wondering if you know of anything else it may be??? Or have any suggestions. I love this bike and would really like to get this issue sorted out. The bike shop also mentioned that if it happened again they would put it on the Dyno to test it all. Would that work?? I know fuck all when it comes to the mechanics of the bike and sometimes feel like i get ripped off when i go to my Honda mechanics, they look at it say cant find anything and then charge me an arm and a leg. Hi Codi, thanks for this great video, I've cleaned my breather/ overflow pipe out on my 05 cbr1000rr but still having a vent problem, that hole inside the tank is separated from the pressure or vacuum once the cap is shut, the seal won't let pressure past to escape down and out through that hole, do you think I have a faulty cap that's not letting pressure through to escape, thanks john.

Had this same issue with my 05 1000rr after three years of owning, it busted in the extreme heat after all that time of not breathing, always make sure to pump gas in the overflow line if it leaks right out of the line onto the ground it has air.

Hi. My cbr600rr 2013 runs on reserve at 240km for the past 5yrs. Now it hit reserve at 200km and it stalled no above than 10km before refueling. There's still approximately 4litres of fuel in the tank and it won't start. I've changed the fuel strainer and cleaned the injectors and it still happens when it get reserve till now. Any advice guys?

I have an issue with my 1996 CBR900rr. It cuts off once it's warm. Starts right up idles great then after a minute of riding it dies. I've cleaned the carbs changed the coils and spark plugs. I'm stumped and debating selling it. Please help.

So I know this sounds dumb, I swapped my motor in my bike and it took me a while to get the motor. I set my gas tank outside for a month or 2 cuz I didn't want my house to smell like gas, I swapped it, made sure i dumped the fuel that was in it while it was outside. And the bike will not stay running at all, fuel pump primes. And I've replaced the stator. Rectifier and battery and tons of other stuff and it will just get up to like 110° and then shut off, and then after the first time I'll start it again and it dies even faster, over and over again. Sorry I've searched everywhere for a solution and no one has it. But u seem smart when it comes to these things, so I'm really hoping you respond -thanks in advance

is the passage/pipe that runs through the tank a "straight shot" through? If so could you slide a sleeve/ pipe of a smaller diameter down through the existing one one? likely a stupid idea but there it is. thoughts anyone?

Can you help me. My 2003 600rr is overheating. Fan comes on strong, new battery, radiator getting piping hot, no misfires, no smoke or poor running, tested clean no combustion gas in coolant. Temp comes down perfectly on the highway at 40mph to about 90'c. But sitting idle the fan is constantly running and temp goes out of control keeps climbing 125'c before I shut it off. Bike was running perfect then sat for a year. I'm stumped... You think water pump is sluggish somehow at idle? Don't even know how that's possible but I have run out of ideas.

That is not why tanks vent. The only time a bike builds pressure inside the tank is when it’s not running. As the bike uses fuel it creates vacuum on the tank and if there is no vent (usually with a one way check ball) the fuel will hydro lock and stall the bike. And the fact that you think power commanders are a waste and cause problems further proves you have no business working on bikes.
