i wonder if instead of doing x amount of chops, you could just chop with each knife for x amount of time and see how much work you can get done in said time, this will eliminate some of the differences with grind, chop placement, weight and such that each knife has since they aren't all the same.

IT ARRIVED !!! Ordered an Ontario Knife Company (OKC) Big Blade Knife. The RTAK2. Its a Heavy Blade. OMG. Makes me Feel like Crocodile Dundee holding it. "That's not a Knife. This is a Knife. 17" overall. 10.5" Blade. Beware Evildoers !! Tactical you have to try this out. Wow.

I have a tac ops 8 and Jessica X and they both rock. Jessica X is just a beater knife though. Has some flaws but it works well for what it is. I love the tac ops though they are beautiful knives.

when you were cutting against the grain the cutting platform seemed to wobble and bounce maybe it absorbed the impact from the knife and just bounced it off

I really like my SP10. It is almost as good as my BK9. I like JessicaX but it is just too big for me. Real close between the SP10 and JessicaX. You are right, and it makes sense, that JessX perfomed just a tad better. It should, it is a lot bigger and heavier.

Say Heah Tac't, Everybody should own a Battle Mistress as a yardstick for a chopper. IMHO, It's one of my best. But for the money, and you said it, The geometry plays a big part in chopping, Check out the O. K. C. Gen2 SP-53 not the SP-52, But 53, Awesome Chopper.

i was using the cs kopis machete from cold steel just yesterday, and while it took a bit of doing it was chopping down 4-5" diameter mullberry trees along my fence line, i am always amazed at what i can get done with a decent machete.

I love the Jessica X, the coating was almost completely off after the first five minutes of use, I think I got a defective coating, but it's still a great knife, I'm not gonna bother paying for shipping to return it.

During your test chopping with the grain, I think you were in general hitting too far back on the blade, which might be the reason they didn`t do too well. Might just be my eyes though xD

I honestly can't stand the Jessica-X. I pretty much want to vomit every time I see it! LOL. But it can chop.....through my vomit! Seriously, I hate gimmick knives which is why my favorite all time design is the WSK from Tom Brown. WHAT? Yeah, it's called hypocrisy! LOL. Tac, I think if you slightly angled your cuts into the wood, just a bit more to avoid the straight into the grain strikes, I think all the results would improve (it's that angle just before a glancing blow angle). I have a Condor Matagi that I thought was just OK, but took it out to the wood pile the other day and tried angling the cut slightly more to suit the edge and MAN, it cut DEEP. Twice as deep as the first time I tried it when I was not so impressed. The second time it earned a spot in my go to pile. Just a small observation brother.

***** OK, so is a froe and that costs $20.00 (Also, according to Chris it is not just for one job by the way). My major complaint is that it is just too damn ugly and goofy to own. It might work brilliantly, but who cares? If you vomit when you look at it, you will never get any wood split! Other knife designs have elicited similar reactions from me so this is not just solely directed at Jessica-X. What I see when I look at it is a retarded Kukri or Parang. Yuk. No thanks.
