At least NBC acknowledges the poor folks who don't own a Color TV.

It was actually a shout-out to people who lived in areas of the South and the Midwest (like Mobile, Alabama, for example) whose network affiliates didn’t as of yet have color facilities. The South has always been slow with the latest technology.

@@davidmatthewvinotjr8396I’m sure some of the more urban districts like Orleans and Miami and Memphis had color. Most of the rest of that was rural and not enough people to be able to afford the technology those and the North were enjoying.

The ABC logo is mostly associated with my interest in record collecting as it appeared on ABC Records. I also find it interesting the network is still using the logo after all these many decades.

For frustrated TV viewers who couldn't afford (or didn't want) a color TV throughout the 1960's and into the early 70's. The black & white NBC peacock opened a showing in October 1967 of The Beatles' movie "A Hard Day's Night". The ABC bumper with no announcer was for the B&W only shows of "Donna Reed", "Ozzie & Harriet", "The Addams Family" & many others until 1967 when color became usual viewing for ABC. The only logo missing is the NET globe logo that became a forerunner to PBS.

@@Antoprod297 The original premier of the "NBC Penguin" was on October, 1967 when NBC aired "A Hard Day's Night." I presume the movie was reran in 1968 and 1969. The black & white peacock was what people with B&W sets usually saw. The ploy was to get viewers to buy RCA Victor color TV sets, since RCA owned NBC from 1926-1986, then sold the company to General Electric in 1986.

Versions of the opening logos for stations lacking the ability to broadcast in color instead resorting to delayed broadcast 16mm kinescopes in monochrome. The ABC logo is mostly associated with my romantic interest for the then young and hot Sally Field in _Lauren_ in the '60s.

McHale's Navy and Rawhide were never in color. Shame. The cost was high in that day.

For a brief time, around 1990, a colorIZED version of McHale’s Navy was syndicated. I would have to assume that it wasn’t successful at all. I have no idea how many episodes were colorized.
