I am 81 and have been listening to shows like this all my life. In 1965 I was a soldier with the American Army serving on border patrol along the iron curtain. We loved in GP tents and Quonset huts . The winters were very cold and dark in the forest. Listening to radio late at night by a coal stove was a comfort compared to driving a Jeep up and down the Czech border all day. Hearing these shows takes me back to that time. When my shift was over I could go back to my home post in Nurnberg and Magdelena. Remembering my “Lanie” tonight and whatever became of her and my youth.😢

For myself, the bullies shaped my life. Took over 20 years to reclaim myself, learn how to fight, learn how to distinguish the evil people from the genuine people, and create the life I've wanted to live. The devil runs deep. I run with God now. That's the most disappointing part, is that I allowed the evil to separate me from God. It was a hard struggle, but for most parts I was just a kid.

I mean, they're really great, and classics, and stand up to today's stuff, but this is a bit of an unfair statement. There's a great variety of recent shows. If you're only looking in a few places, like cable, than you're missing a huge amount of what is being produced.
@Synthpoptroubadour

@@whyalfie no, but you have to understand that there are a great number of people out there who absolutely hate anything being made in the present, and they only accept things made in the past. I have noticed this pretty much my whole life and it’s a strange phenomenon. I personally don’t get it because I see value in being nostalgic, but I see value in things happening now.

@@scratchking3205 “nobody likes today”? Lol so every single person in the world hates being alive? What a ridiculous thing to say. There is a lot of great stuff on planet Earth. You can go hiking in the Himalayas, go explore caves, go hangliding, read a good book. And despite what you say, there are a lot of great movies and TV shows out there. You don’t speak for everybody else. I’m sorry you have such a miserable life that you feel the need to assume everybody else feels as terrible as you do. I hope you get therapy.

I grew up listening to radio in the 1940. Mom, Dad, Sis and I gathered around the crossly tombstone radio in a dimly lit room during the war years.on the wall behind the radio was a soft orange glow from the radio tubes in the set. Before I was old enough for school , my afternoon naps were taken on Moms velvet couch. She ironed clothes while listening to Stella Dallas soap opera. I often dozed off while listening too. On cold winter days the experience was so comforting. So here I am now once again , late at night listening to a Vintage RCA Cathedral radio as I doze off for the night.

My guess on why folks don't write this way anymore is probably "advertisement" and "product placement". These studios and companies pay a lot of money to saturate all of our entertainment with suggestions on products, ideas, and politics. I really love this era of storytelling because it's an unsaturated pure act of story-telling.

Old Time Radio is better, by far, than today’s TV, movies, video games & radio. OTR, besides entertaining, the variety of genre and shows themselves would shock most people. Its not “advertised” in the normal sense, because the money has been made and distributed, except for royalties where applicable. Old Time Radio is truly like TV only without the screen. It only takes a short while to really become accepting of OTR. Once you do, you find its not bombastic, in-your-face, against your values. Its very fulfilling!
@lynnrobinson8885

Because these shows were written for people to listen to, having been birthed before television, writers were expert in creating “visions” with their words, and voices “animated” the words. A good number of decades of fairly blasé video has seen the loss of real creativity of that calibre.

Boomer here, lol... When I was little, Mom would send me to my Grandparents farm in Ireland. They didn't own a TV, they did however have a radio. For an hour a day (after chores) we gathered around the radio and listened to the news, weather and a storyteller... I was told, TV steals your imagination...
