GREAT music. Even the graphics were awesome. If someone used those graphics today, nobody would say it looks too old. We need the music back. Even if just for one week.

Also (response to ultraback's comment) the way the TV contracts work is that whichever network has AFC or NFC coverage would cover intra-conference games in which the team in the conference that network usually covers (today; CBS and FOX; then; NBC and CBS respectively) is the visitor.

I was watching Eagles-Cowboys at the same time in what no one knew at the time would be the last-ever game Tom Landry would coach. The Eagles winning that game meant they were a wild card at worst and then after the Jets beat the Giants were NFC East Champions. The Giants were knocked out later that night when the 49ers laid down and died against a Rams team that got into the playoffs with a win in that game as the 49ers had already clinched the NFC West and wanted no part of the Giants.

@DNSKansas You are correct. I was there, and this is still one of the most bitter defeats in Giants history. They would have had an NFC East title, a bye, and at least one home game. Worse, all the usual villains kicked in, the Jets beat us, the Eagles won the East, and the 49ers totally laid down later that afternoon because the Giants had beaten them in the `85 and `86 playoffs, had them beat earlier this `88 season but for the fluke pass to Rice and were to beat them again in `90 playoffs.

Still can't believe they lost that game, then again, they blew 2 games late vs. the Eagles and 49ers that year.

That was a great day! The Jets knocked off Big Blue and out of the playoffs so the Eagles won their 1st division title in 7 years (the 1st I could remember). Even though the BIrds promptly legged an egg in the Fog Bowl in their next game before watching the Bears get trounced by the eventual champion 49ers.

As a Dallas Cowboys fan, I remember this game as well. I remember rooting for the Giants but they lost unfortunately. I also remeber my Cowboys stomping the Eagles duirng the mind 90's as Emmit had some of his best games against them. I also remember the fact that the eagels still have an empty trophy case....43 yrs and no superbowl...gotta love it!!!! LOL........Go Cowboys!!!

I remember the Eagles kicking Dallas ass to win the Division, and make the playoffs because the Giants lost , also kicking Dallas ass 3 years in a row because Buddy hated the Cowboys, and the Cowboys split most season with the Eagles when they were good , I remember the year the Cowboys won the Super Bowl they came in to Philly on a Monday Night and the Eagles kicked there ass so don’t act like Cowboys dominated us in that era , Also the Eagles D sack Aikman 11 times in Dallas in 91
@princedb71 Жыл бұрын
@Jamare Rashaan McDonald Lol......yes, the Cowboys DID dominate the eagles in that era and had 3 superbowls in 4 yrs to show for it. I don't understand how anyone can even compare the eagles to the Cowboys.....75 yrs and only 1 superbowl to show for it.....sounds like a pretty shitty franchise to me. I also recall the Cowboys knocking the eagles out of the playoffs in 92, 94, amd 95. If that is not domination, I don't know what is, lol.

I've noticed that in 1988 the NFC EAST played the AFC CENTRAL in inter conference play, while the NY Giants played only two AFC teams the Jets and the Chiefs, can someone hopefully answer this. Thanks
@mbowlen346 жыл бұрын
the reason that happened is back then , there were 5 teams in each division and only 3 divisions in each conference, the top 4 teams had the schedule you mentioned, but the last place team from the previous season which the Giants were in 1987 would play twice against another 5th place division team in their conference which is why they played the Detroit Lions twice that year who were not in their division, same happened for 2 AFC TEAMS IN 5TH PLACE, then the worst last team in each conference would play each other twice because of the in balance of having 5 teams in each division

This intro is the reason why today football openings suck. The old intros provided a backstory to the two teams playing to give the fans an idea what to expect. The new CBS NFL intro is so generic that it looks like it was made with no imagination. TV in the 21st century!!!! It's fantastic.......

If they both finished 10-6, Eagles would win on the tiebreaker. There's no way they can win the NFC East without going 11-5. They might have a shot at a wildcard with 10-6, but that year, the NFC was so strong that 10-6 didn't guarantee you the playoffs. I sure miss the days when the NFC was the feared conference.
