I think they said it was a live event, so they certainly saw him sign everything, I just think that Brady knew the deal that was going on; that (likely) every single person there was a reseller trying to make a killing on his signature It’s why I also don’t feel bad when the Dodgers or Angels or Yankee’s pay some prospect a bajillion dollars and he ends up being mediocre at best… they rolled the dice and came up snake-eyes… same here

I actually help my friend get signed memorabilia here in Chicago once maybe twice outta the year if he needs help. This was done on purpose and rightfully so. At times people will shove 10-20 things In their face trying to make a quick buck and you can see the actor/celebrity frustrated because they know they aren’t true fans. I usually just got for 1 signed item and a picture with them. That’s usually good enough for me.

I was on a flight from Reno I believe to San Jose and by absolute chance was on the same flight as a number of WWE wrestlers… this was back in ‘01 I want to say I had actually just bought my first wrestling figure the day before (Kane) and when I realized that I was sitting behind Ivory and a very exhausted Test, I could barely contain myself After the flight attendant announced that it was Ivory’s b-day (surely a run by one of the others because how else would he have known) he gave her an entire master bag of airplane peanuts, which she almost immediately asked if the guy next to me and myself wanted any… he said no, I said sure and then she gave me the entire bag With an organic interaction in the books, I meekly asked her if she’d be willing to sign my figure (it was in my carryon; didn’t want it to get crushed) and apologized that it wasn’t even ~her~ figure… She laughed it off and said sure, then asked if I wanted anyone else’s signature. I said something like “that would be awesome, but I don’t want to be a bother” and she ended up passing it around to a bunch of them I remember for sure that I got: Ivory Test D-Von Bob Holly I wanna say Bubba Ray I think Justin Credible I don’t remember who else… I think the card backer is in a tote somewhere It had nothing to do with its value, in fact I bet that the sheer number of autographs likely devalued it, especially since Kane wasn’t even on that flight 😅 Don’t care, it cemented that day in my mind and I sometimes wonder if it was a day so bizarre that even Ivory would remember me if I brought it up… that would be awesome if she did, but I’ll likely never know Yeah, I opened it cause I still wanted the figure, but that card backer is special even if Test just scribed “TEST” in all caps

They paid because they thought it was gonna get them a big return when they sold the items. Celebrities have admitted to changing their signatures so people could not profit by selling it. No doubt Brady did that so they could not make money off of him, which is what he should do. Nonetheless, that is the issue, they are mad that they cannot make big money like they thought they would. They do not care about the items, they are meaningless trinkets, they just wanted a big payday, and now they're mad that is not gonna happen. I bet when Brady signs for a kid, they get the real autograph, but a middle aged man trying to profit gets the throw away autograph. As sure as you're breathing Brady knew what he was doing.

You didn't really listen to the video then. Authentication is pretty huge in the sports memorabilia world. If Brady has a signature everyone knows they will expect to see that signature. This man paid thousands of dollars. If he ever decides to sell his memorabilia he is going to have a hard time making his money back, all because Tom was too lazy to actually give him a complete signature. It has nothing to do with the reason you said and is actually a legitimate complaint, especially for the money he spent.

As a card/mem collector myself I have ZERO sympathy for this man. You buy this stuff to collect and its meaningful to you. But here he is solely having it signed to have it authenticated to RESELL or INVEST. He already has proof of it being signed but its not good enough for him because of resale concerns. Plus, at the end of the day the thousands of dollars paid is divided to greedy organizers, the lavish party event, and is going to Brady who is already well off. It is truly fools money, and going public makes him even more of a FOOL!
@ericb4498

It’s not necessarily for him to resell & it might be meaningful to him if it actually looked like a Brady auto. It doesn’t matter if he witnessed Brady putting pen to item if he just scribbles something that doesn’t even resemble an auto. If I’m getting what resembles the scribble of an infant than I’d much rather have the memorabilia without said auto. I predict in 40 or 50 years, those items with proper providence, will be among the most valuable Brady signed items in existence. Just get documentation. Make a website about it. Get collector magazines to write an article about it. Get Brady to say he signed those. Make it so everyone knows about those particular things and the unusual but ACTUAL Tom Brady signature. A collectible is something people want and is limited. Unless he starts signing like that every time, those are going to be worth a fortune.

The current situation regarding autographs is extremely discouraging. Decades ago athletes' and celebrities' signatures in general were neat and very legible. Penmanship was taught in schools and deemed a necessary skill. When did two indecipherable letters become an autograph? What good is an autograph if you honestly can't tell whose it is? This always baffles me. I have a handful of autographs of HOF'ers from all four major sports in the USA who were superstars in the 1950's, 60's and 70's. Each one is extremely neat and you can read every letter of both the first and last names easily. They are some of the most beautiful examples of penmanship you'll ever see from grown men, including one of the all-time beasts of the NFL. Maybe if people would stop all the greedy speculation and idol worship and not pay ridiculous amounts of money for scribbles especially from prospects who will probably never be HOF'ers or even have what will be considered very good to great careers then these athletes will start to take more pride in their signatures in the future. Honestly, you can see examples of their signatures (and I use this term very loosely) before you buy them so why would you want to waste your hard earned money for a signature that reflects little if any respect for the fan who wants it? They will continue to get away with this for as long as the paying public encourages it.

The guy has his proof in the receipt he got for his money. That's his authentication. OR he's dealing with an idiot dealer.

Wow, there are a bunch of jealous people on here. It says that the man is a “sports memorabilia collector”! It doesn’t say that he is a dealer! I own a few autographed pieces of recently graduated college athletes, that I stood in line for hours just weeks after having cancer surgery, to have the opportunity to get an autograph that luckily included a numbered hologram. I added them to my meager collection. I didn’t buy them to resell, but I definitely hope they increase in value. If the player is a bust, the value will drop, if he is a star, it will increase. They were favorite players of mine anyway. Brady definitely was a star, and if he TAKES $3600 per autograph, he should take his time and sign the item correctly. If he doesn’t want the money, just refuse to sign the items. If he gets too tired to make $3600 for 5 seconds worth of work to sign his autograph correctly, then STOP taking the money. Unfortunately, the money charged is beyond the reach of most fans, so only the well-heeled can do it. For all you folks that have NO sympathy for this gentleman, I hope you don’t collect anything. Some people spend lots of their hard earned money on whatever they choose to collect, whether it’s matchbooks or barbed wire. It doesn’t matter! It’s enjoyable to them and it’s their money after all. I might not want to collect what they enjoy, but I will NEVER berate them for collecting it! Like was said below, some folks like Peyton Manning do it the correct way…….others don’t!

His autograph is altered and worthless on non approved stuff. Almost all the celebrities that have an autograph contract do this because they get sick of telling fans they can’t sign the item. Fans don’t take time to do research and they get sick of telling hundreds of people they can’t sign that item that they just give up and use an altered signature. If fans would do the research or just listen to the venues then this wouldn’t happen but since they don’t it’s becoming more and more common.

They charge that much at a signing event because all the people attending those things are there to resell the signature anyway, and all of them are gullible enough to pay it. Almost nobody attending those things are actually there as a fan, they're there to make money. Chances are he was having an off day and he had only a few minutes to sign 50 or so signatures, so he didn't end up making a good enough signature for resale.

I'll always say that earlier autographs of any famous person are always better. I have 4 autographs from a music artist I like and his oldest signature, when there were less fans and he was less famous, is much more legible than the one I got from earlier this year. I've also noticed artists or entertainers that, when they do mass amounts of signatures, at some point start to become more shorthanded. What this event should have done is what they do at some comic cons when they have signing sessions for mail in items, they have someone present at the event that certifies signatures if the customer pays extra. Certifications can happen in person if a official personnel of the authentication company is present when its being signed to verify it was done in person. Or it can be authenticated later by paying extra and sending directly to the company. You would think that such an event with a $3000 signature, they would have someone from like JSA to in person authenticate the signatures being they physically watch Tom Brady sign it. I'd say, next time, this kind of signing event should hire someone from JSA or PSA to authenticate in person after the person has their items signed. Damn that sucks though. He paid 50k for all of his items to get signed and camt even have them in person authenticated. I mean, he could probably sell them eventually without authentication with the proofs of the event especially if he was able to get photos of his stuff being signed and proof he was present at the event even if JSA or PSA doesnt authenticate it. At an event like this too, paying so much money, you'd think its a limited event where Brady would be more thorough with his signature compared to like when John Cena signed over a thousand prints without even looking in a WWE reel at one point. Like... come on.
