Norman Lear, who created, developed or co-produced some of television's most beloved comedies, such as "All in the Family," "Maude," "The Jeffersons," and "One Day at A Time," died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2023, at the age of 101. To watching Norman Lear's 70's shows you'd believe actresses/actors were related so that his audiences understood him as a producer. For me, I always wandered if the actor who played J.J. on Good Times was a family member 😄😄 and I love the theme song to The Jeffersons.😄😄

Well, we didn't have many TV channels and the Internet, which stirred the pot of societal animosity, but what we do have is Mr. Lear's legacy to inspire us to be socially conscious and speak truth to power when it's abused by those who don't have the people's best interests at heart.

In retrospect Lear made one fatal error. He made Good Times about Jimmie Walker and John Amos and Esther Rolle were sidelined. He actually killed off the Amos character. Proof that even a brilliant creator can make an idiot mistake.
@jasongilmore2709
@jasongilmore2709 7 ай бұрын
If you actually knew what you were talking about you would know that the differences that Amos had with Producers- namely Lear- had to do with him wanting more emphasis on the other two children on the series and not just Jimmie Walker... So a little homework before espousing about "idiot mistakes"

The term "trailblazer" is somewhat shopworn, but it definitely applies to Norman Lear. When "All In The Family" hit the airwaves, most sitcoms were like "The Brady Bunch". No sitcom was talking about things like the Vietnam war, race relations or religion. But Lear was able to take such serious subjects and make us laugh about them. The legacy he left is admirable and will never be matched.

This one hurts. Norman Lear was a fighter. ABC didn't want All in the Family, but that didn't stop him from taking it to CBS. And he ended up completely changing the TV landscape. Without Archie Bunker stopping a lesbian teacher from getting fired in the 70s, we would've never seen Roseanne Conner stand up against Islamophobia at the grocery store in 2018. Norman Lear was never too afraid to "go there" - and neither should we.
