Earlier this year singer-songwriter Christopher Cross contracted the coronavirus, and was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome, a rare disease affecting the body's immune system. Hospitalized in the ICU, the Grammy-winner was paralyzed and almost died. In his first TV interview since his illness, Cross talks with correspondent Serena Altschul about his near-death experience; being a long-haul COVID survivor; and his return to the recording studio.

Mr. Cross , I’ve seen you 13 times in concert and in May of this year it would’ve been my 14th. This video has touched my heart and my soul and I know you’ll be back out there singing the songs that represent the soundtrack of my life. I remember the first time I met you and I was nervous. You were having sound issues before your show but you took 10 minutes of your time to visit me at you didn’t disappoint me. You’ll always be my favorite singer of all time and I can’t wait to see you walk out on that stage once again. Love you Mr. Cross.

So happy for CHRISTOPHER CROSS and his great progress on the road to recovery from this deadly virus. I was only 12 years old when SAILING dropped and became the biggest hit single of 1980. Back then ALL young people played the radio and that song was everywhere but it never got old. The beauty and serenity of it's lyrics and the melody ring true even now. He went onto win the TOP FOUR Grammy Awards of 1981 for this achievement: ALBUM OF THE YEAR, RECORD OF THE YEAR, SONG OF THE YEAR and BEST NEW ARTIST. A feat NEVER replicated again by any artist until BILLIE EILISH did it this year!! Godspeed to CHRIS CROSS and wishing and hoping only the very best for you.

Linda - They have tropical weather in those countries and Covid can't hardly survive in the heat. Hot air makes it replicate slower, which allows the body to fight it off easier. In colder air, the virus replicates super fast in people's airways, and their body has to fight hard to keep up the fight. The body has to produce white blood cells and other defensive cells fast enough to keep up the fight against this fast replicating virus. When the air temp gets at or near 47.6F/8.6C lab tests show that this virus goes into a super fast replication frenzy. The safest place to live during this pandemic is a hot tropical climate.

@@shootingshark4375 regardless of the climate they still wear masks without seeing it as slight to their personal freedom. If precautions were taken by everyone in the US it will help limit the spread. The after effects can be horrendous and this is not so uncommon.

@@shootingshark4375 The virus thrives in hot countries, so this is a myth. The two countries which have had the worst number of cases and highest rates of death besides the United States are India and Brazil. Brazil is in the southern hemisphere, so it was their winter, but their "winters" are still warm. It is spring now there, and they are struggling terribly with this virus. Hot weather helps people to be outdoors more, but the virus is just as contagious and deadly in the heat as it is in the colder months. The Nations which manage the virus well do so because they had a unified message from their leadership, in addition to ample amounts of reliable testing, very effective contact tracing and isolation for those who test positive or were exposed to someone who tested positive. As mentioned above, they mandate consistent mask wearing, sanitizing, and continuous monitoring of locations in severity of the virus throughout their countries. They took it seriously. They didn't deny its existence. They proceed according to scientific protocol. There is absolutely no politicization of safety rules. They know that they are saving the lives of others in addition to their own, and they don't consider it some kind of restriction of freedom. It gives them more freedom. They are swift and thorough in their management. Someone said proactive. Absolutely true!

@@roseharvey2664 If masks worked, I would say yes, but there are numerous studies that show they don't work. They don't filter the tiny viral particles when you exhale or inhale. A new study from the CDC showed 85% of the people with Covid were wearing a mask when they caught it. If the truth was known, masks are probably causing more people to become infected, because they take risks they shouldn't be taking. "I'm safe to go into that crowd, because my mask will protect me"

CHRISTOPHER CROSS, I MISS YOUR MUSIC. Sailing will always be my favorite song. My daddy died in 2009. He loved to be on the water, and fish. Before he died, he told my older sister that he lived a good life. He was such a peaceful man. I dedicate the song sailing to him. My daddy was my best friend. Thinking about him on the water fishing made him happy. Peaceful, and Serene. When we found out he was dying, i though about the part where it said SOON I WILL BE FREE. Didn't want him to suffer anymore. I play this song every February 11th, and put it on my fb page. Thanks CHRISTOPHER CROSS for making such a beautiful song . I am definitely a fan of yours from wisconsin. I pray also for your strength, and healing. Sincerely, Leann From Wisconsin

Christopher Cross is a more talented musician than many people know. He's really skilled on guitar - and the rock fans out here would be surprised to know. He also helped get guitar virtuoso legend Eric Johnson's career started - it was Christopher Cross, of all people, who recognized Johnson's brilliance on electric guitar and pushed him at his record company.
