In 2013 country singer Randy Travis suffered a massive stroke, which paralyzed his right side and damaged an area of his brain that controls speech and language. He has not quite recovered the ability to sing, but working with singer James DuPre and a computer program that creates an AI-generated version of his voice, Travis and his longtime producer Kyle Lehning have created a new song, "Where That Came From," that captures Randy's country heart. Lee Cowan reports.

Say it clear! Randy gave his blessings, because he needs money for further therapies! But that's o.k.! This is the one side! The other side is: You can see and hear, how easy everybody can be replaced by AI! And this is frightening in my opinion!

@@dietmarsteiner1070 What you missed about this is that HUMANS had to intervene and play with the AI to make it "right." AI is a tool that can help in the process, but it still isn't capable of fully replacing people. Computers are stupid machines. They can only do what people teach them to do. They just do it faster.

@@dietmarsteiner1070 this is the same thing people said about cars in the beginning. It’s only scary because it’s different. This is the best use case for AI, helping those with disabilities get at least some part of their life back. Just like they say in the video, do deprive him of being able to keep making music now that we have the technology to make it happen is unconscionable. Love the new song Randy 💜

@@ChristopherHaws90 You write about the BEST use. Randy seems to be happy which is great! I write about the WORST use. It's not only to be replaced by AI! You can't deny that there's a high potential of criminal use. I mean faked phone calls and so. I can't and don't want forbid AI! It's a good thing for Randy and others who are like him for sure! I just try to warn about the negative side. That's all. P.S.: I like Randy's new song, too!

@@dietmarsteiner1070 Thanks for the clarification. I agree, there are bad uses for AI, just as there are with lots of things, like cars. @@morbidmanmusic That AI needed HIS VOICE in order to complete the project. It had EVERYTHING to do with his voice ... It gives Randy a piece of his life back that he lost many years ago. The happiness that he exudes is worth it all!! Some singers don't even have any of the instruments to make a song... It's all computerized, and nobody says anything about them. And in some cases, there is a mic that will make you sound AMAZING... Many use them. So, whatever it takes, to make it work... Awesome. But when Randy first started singing, he had it all. And it was his voice that set him apart from everyone.

@@morbidmanmusic I'm guessing you have never had a family member suffer a stroke and in an instant take away everything in life that meant so much to them. For Randy, his family and fans this at least allows them the opportunity to hear what he would sound like had he not had a stroke. AI doesn't take away from his lyrics or his passion for music. Seeing the smile on his face says it all! You are missing the point, it's deeper than AI!

This video is hella creepy. It is a public service announcement to everyone who recognizes Randy's hand gesture at the end there. He is a shell of the man he once was. That man was dead. Why would he need someone to sing his songs and match them with A.I. technology. AI could have used 30 seconds of any of his old songs and created a Randy Travis song. I think its punishment. My old mentor Darrell Phillips worked with every artist in the music industry in the 70s, 80s, and 90s. He was in charge of all the concerts that took place at the River Center and Super Dome. He told me when I was 19 that Randy Travis was the worst of all the bands, the rappers, pop stars... I asked him who was the best person(their character) and who was the worst. He said Randy Travis was abusive to people under him and was always trying not to pay. I am not judging. I am just trying to figure out why this blatant abuse of an old man and his life's work is being celebrated and used to control other artists.

I'm not a fan of country music, but Randy Travis is a legend at his art. Think of it as making a comeback from an injury. He put his heart into this, and that is all that matters to me.

You're not hearing him. You're hearing a computer. Plain and simple.

@@morbidmanmusic We’ve been hearing “computers” for years now, in fact this is less digitally modified than many songs with true vocals that come out now. Modern music has been digitized and edited on computers for over half a century. You should clearly know this since you seem to have a vested interest in music. Embrace the future, don’t be stuck in time.

Brings joyful tears to my eyes and wonderful memories too. A life long country music fan and a Randy fan for 35 years….this is like going home again. I’m so sorry Randy had a stroke but am so glad he’s still here. His voice has been missed. My mom had a stroke 2+ months ago and it was awful. Praise God she’s fine now but What a blessing she and Randy are and that they’re still Here! Not a fan of AI but with Randy’s blessing this is a beautiful use of it! Yes brings you to tears to hear his voice again, I’m bawling. Such a gift to us all! God Bless you Randy and all the musicians! Praise Jesus for every voice!

I'm from the Middle East, 1st time I ever heard a country song was in the early 90s, and it was by Randy Travis. Since then, I'm addicted to country music. Randy, thank you so much.

God dam, im sat here with tears streaming down my face, i listen to Randy Travis every single night, im Terminally sick from a work injury and a consequence i suffer from extreme depression and anxiety severe night terrors and extreme ptsd with suicidal tendencies and i have several failed attempts, you see randys voice gives just enough light to take me away from the darkness and the deamons that say horrible things, Randy is my safe zone and i cant thank him enough. I only have 1 thing i wouod like to do and thats to thank him in person, but i will hever be able to do that, i live in the uk. I can always dream
