This is a video from the CBT (Compulsory Basic Training) series created by John Macdonald, Director of ProScot Rider and Driver Training Ltd, it will help you to learn how to ride a motorcycle. This video covers (Part 2) of Element C - The off-road practical training element and focuses on how to carry out 'Slow speed riding', how to do the 'Slalom' the 'Figure of Eight' and the 'U-Turn' manoeuvres. The video also looks at typical rider faults and areas of weakness when learning the above skills. The video is designed to give riders about to attend a CBT an in-depth insight into a CBT and hopefully help the learning process and enable riders to focus more on the practical learning Elements of the CBT. the video will also help those riders sitting the Module 1 (Mod1) test as the skills are directly transferable to the bike bike with demonstrations given on both the 125cc and 650cc motorcycles.

I can't see why these videos haven't received a significantly larger number of likes. Clearly articulated explanations with no daft acronyms. Thanks for taking the time to make these, John.

John, thank you so much for this CBT video series. I wish I had watched these before taking on my CBT last month. I really struggled with slow speed manouvres - I was leaning my body weight into the turns while I was looking round and kept putting my foot down as a result. The instructor did not advise on correct body positioning and as a result I continued to lose the bike into the turns. I was let go before the road portion. I will be trying at a different school when the weather is kinder early next year. The knowledge from these videos has already boosted my confidence and understanding, so really appreciated.

wow! great video, i went from auto pcx 125 to cb125f manual but only doing cbt on the auto as every two years i went back to same instructor and he just took money and signed certificate after first passing the cbt. this i guess was ok until i realise now i went last year with a geared bike and he just said nothing to it as i had arrived on it i will be ok and he passed me. i have been now riding for past 6 months and decided to go for mon1 and 2 with another riding school and within 30 minutes i kept dropping the bike! needless to say i didn't get passed day 1. they said the 650 suzuki was too big for me as im only 5 ft 2 i felt this was wrong and did research and found your video. i now know thanks to you! i need to practice these slow exercises i was leaning etc and was losing the bike! great video thank you i hope i will get the confidence to do my test later on kev

one of the better video and explanation of why and how. Most just tell you why and to use the rear break... well WHEN and HOW DO YOU USE IT. Yah i can control it but need some details on why and how and so on.... but you made it where its so easy to understand the WHY, HOW and WHEN to use break, clutch and throttle so on for balance. Great Vid!

John when would you steer a bike vs countersteer? I can see in the slow manoeuvres you need steering but out on the road left and right turns vary in speed so is it just a case of the speed that you turn?

Hi John. I am an Irish guy living in Spain and I am preparing for the A2 exam at the moment. I am doing classes on a z400 and I am finding the offset cone weave very challenging. In spain you approach a series of 5 cone which are offset and spaced 4 metres apart. The approach is made between 2 parallel lines which are 10 inches apart and which your wheels cant touch. After exiting the lines you almost immediately enter the slalom. I cant seem to get the hang of it and it is very frustrating and demotivating. Do you have any advice? Your videos are great and you have a way of explaining very clearly. You should have more subscibers!!!
