In today's video we're gonna unbox the long anticipated Tamiya CC-02. Yeah yeah yeah, I know I'm four years too late, but give me a break, I'm still playing catch-up on all these awesome kits Tamiya has to offer!
The CC-02 is a very scale looking, solid axle trail truck that can really impress on the rocks, trails and more. It's very capable when modified with better tires, beadlocks, and a good esc.

Nice unboxing and overview, Fil! I do like the look of this rig, I agree a more understated colour will really suit that body, too. Those tyres must be strong by your sniff reaction, probably all they're good for though! 😅 Have fun with the build and the paint job, wish I was closer, I'd definitely cut those stickers out for some free beer! Those old FJ's sure are nice! My CC01 had the FJ40 body on it, and I always loved it. So the CC02 had to do the same. 😁🍻

The CC02 is a nice kit. It can be a little fiddly with the tiny captured nuts through out but overall goes together well. The driveshafts are fine for light trail running but any kind of crawling they may start to twist but you have to be pushing it to do that. It should turn out to look great and be a fun trail truck.

I watched a few build videos and yeah, those little captured nuts do seem a little dodgy. Matteo was putting shoe goo on them, which is what I think I'll do. Cheers buddy! 🍻

Yeah, that CC-02, I have been planning to build me one for a while now, just didn't get around to it, I have all the upgrades purchased, just lying around, but still no kit, he he, I even got a body for it... I loved building the Bronco CC02. So different from the CC01 and it felt more like you were building a real truck. Looks great!

Oh man those stickers 🤪 I hate those window surrounds as they always go wrong for me. Going to be a fun build. I had a CC02 but sold it as I just don’t get to trail. Love the look of the chassis though. Perhaps you’ll inspire me for a purchase dude 🙌🏻

Those little window surrounds are pure evil, aren't they? I did notice though, that the kit came with larger window stickers, where the surround was all one piece! Woo hooo!!! 😁😁😁

I have just received my 2nd CC02. I do like them and enjoy taking them out with other 'crawlers' and people are impressed with how it performs (with better tyres!!) Definitely BOTH diffs need locking as I only locked the rear on my first. That will be sorted going forward. Look forward to your build

I was thinking about picking one of these up and fitting it with the Tamiya 35T crawler motor and a 3S battery, But I was also thinking of buying a Squash Van instead and putting that LC40 body on it....

I think I'm going to steal the wheel/tire combo off of my CC01. Stamped steel beadlocks with some Injora tires that work really well on the rocks. 👍🏻👊🏼

Hiya Fil.... Just catching up on content after a rather 'heavy' weekend! 😜 It's always interesting to see these models, as 'crawling' is something that I have only done after too many pints! 😂 It's a whole other side to the hobby, but is always interesting to watch on Dirks channel etc. Looks like a cool little kit, with some nice aromatic tyres.... but those decals would give me a headache for sure, decals are my nemesis! Just come from the photos of the body, loving the colour scheme mate! Look forward to seeing it run..... or should I say crawl? 🤔 👍 👍 👍

Yeah crawling is a bit of a different beast. I remember about 10 years ago when a friend bought an Axial Wraith and brought it to our race track. I was like "what the hell are you supposed to do with this thing?" Then he proceeded to climb a bunch of rocks effortlessly, and I thought, hmmmm... This could be fun... haha. There's something about RC crawling and trail driving that you just can't explain, you have to get out there and do it. And when you do, it clicks. It's actually quite a lot of fun. You should give it a whirl sometime. 👊🏼😉🍻

@@poorboysrc Oh for sure dude, it definitely arouses the interest..... that's why I enjoy watching these sort of unboxing videos, and learning about kits I have no knowledge of...... and the mechanics that drive them. I'm a keen outdoors person, so that element attracts me to. So yes, definitely one day..... but as always, it's all down to so little spare time. But, will certainly be following you along for a crawl with this bad boy! 👍 👍 👍

Thanks again for watching, my man! Yeah it's a bit of a hike from ON to B.C., haha. But we have good beer, soooo.... 😄😉 My wife gets a kick out of the comme ts section. They tend to go sideways fast, so it's always a good laugh! And yeah, I've been thinking of doing more live stuff. I did a live build a couple years ago, and it was a lot to manage. Trying to build a kit, and engage with viewers was a challenge. But I'm sure with some experience, it won't be so bad. We'll do one in the future, I just don't know when yet. It'll be on an easier build. 👊🏼🍻

YO, what is going on here! Every time you have busted out a model I have the same one. Only this time you beat me with a CC-02. I have the same kit on the CC-01. I guess I purchased the BLACK EDITION, It came with LEDs and special black Chrome accents. The Land Cruiser body is finished in BLACK. I have all the hop-up parts that will improve the travel of this kit.

@@poorboysrc Shame that you spend all that money on a kit and not being able to use the tires, that you have to pay more money out that SHOULD come stock. That is another reason I said goodbye to Tamiya. I am so pissed at them Fil, I am now selling of my 60+ kits.

The build is taking me a lot longer than expected, it's a bit of a fiddly one. But I'm almost done and I can already tell that the CC02 has a nice robust feel to it, and the axles have quite a bit of mass to them, so I'm hoping it'll handle itself well on the rocks. Good call with the sharpie. I love that look, but I lack the steady hand to make it look good, lol! 🤣🤦

Would the CC02 be any good as a Dakar style truck I’ve been toying with this and the MF01X chassis to have a rally cross style car do you think with a decent motor/esc and tyres it could handle it. Help and advice always appreciated thanks keep up the great content bud 😀👍🏼

Ah, a very good question! I'm pretty sure Tamiya even made a Dakar VW (Taureg?) body for the CC01 in the RedBull livery. I suppose it could work for that apication. I'd almost lean more towards the CC01 v.s. the CC02 though, as the CC02 seems to hold the motor and battery quite high, so the higher COG may be an issue. XV01 or MF01x are a platform I think I would go with for a Dakar racer. Probably XV01. I like the larger scale, lower COG, lots of build and tuning options. Man, you got me thinking about this one... There's no perfect right or wrong answer. Time to start building, I suppose! 😉🍻😆

I don't think so. I noticed that the stickers come with tinted window stickers. So I'll see just how tinted they are. If it's super dark, no interior. If you can still see in there, I'll probably go with an interior. Driver at the very least. 👌

What size tires would work well with this build?

I find you can't go much bigger than stock without a lot of rubbing, so I stay stockish, but I run a 1.55 wheel, so I've got more sidewall. It looks more scale on this chassis, too! 👊🏼

Yeah, apparently the first time Tamiya issued the LC40 body, it was for the CR01.

Hahaha, it's a joke based on the way Canadians say "about." I'm Canadian, and we see on TV here that we're perceived as pronouncing "about" as "aboot", so I just have fun with it. We try to keep it fun here. 😉🍻👍🏻
