Hey all,
In this video I'll give you a quick look at the CCM XF Pro skates, which is the successor to the AS-V Pro skates. Not much info is currently out there, but I will give you some second-hand info that was provided to me by someone who has tried them on already.
Here's some time stamps for you...

Definitely think the market is leaning more heavily towards the FT Pro and Ribcor Trigger sticks compared to the ASV Pro as low and hybrid kicks seem to be used a lot more than traditional midkick sticks. But as far as skates go, I think the ASV Pro skates are still pretty popular relative to the FT Pro skates and still have a place in the market, especially for people who want that extra volume that other brands and models don't seem to provide quite as much.

Any thoughts on your FT4 Pros? I know they are an older skate, but I am looking to get a pair

If you can find a pair of FT4 pros and you know they fit, I think you’ll love them. Keep in mind they take about a month and a half to break in. I love mine and I will have had mine 2 years as of April 2024. That said, I’ll be ready to replace them summer of 2024. I use them to play rec hockey and coach kids so I’m on the ice around four times per week.

@@mongillohockey most stores in Canada do not sell them in store anymore to try them and n so makes it hard to know if they fit, but if I can find a pair I will look into picking them up

I've had the AS-V Pro skates for about a year now. When I first got them I liked them. They do have some things that I really don't like though. The tongues are ridiculous and when I bought them I thought it was something I just need to get used to but now I just hate them. The things are gigantic and really annoying. Also they get in the way of me getting over my toes when skating with forward flex. The tongue design over the tendon is nice since it prevents lace bite and coming from Bauers that is a good change. However that is the only good thing. They are stupid tall, thick, bulky, wide and they thin out over the top of your foot making lots of space for your foot to move up and down from just past the arch of your foot and down to the toes. The other thing is that the toe cap is huge in width and height. I liked this at first but soon started to hate it. The front of your feet just feel loose. So a year later... They feel like they are wearing out already. The foams inside are all worn out and the boots don't hug the feet at all anywhere now. Heels slide around and feet move unless your really crank down the laces but then you lose ankle movement. This is made worse by the feeling of the boots being too tall. I didn't notice this until I skated a few times but they are tall and it is hard to get forward ankle flex. Also the boots seem to be getting soft already which is also surprising. I'm really frustrated with these skates considering the price. They felt good new but with some quirks and with the new foam they seemed to fit snug. Now it feels like I'm wearing rubber boots that flop around. Another odd thing is that the skates have developed a wide hump under the ball of my foot. It seems not too big but when I'm skating it really feels uncomfortable. I went back to my old Bauers for a few skates and realized how much I really don't like the AS-V Pro. I really regret buying them and now I'm not sure what to do but I think I might go back to Bauer (even though the FT-6 Pro feels really good new).

Really great feedback! Thanks for sharing! Hopefully someone besides me will get some use out of what you mentioned. This is part of the problem with all of the channels that do equipment reviews. We don’t really know how good or long it equipment lasts until way down the road and my that time the new thing came out. It kinda sounds like CCM is trying to address some of the issues you mentioned for the XF Pro release, but time will tell. You’ll have to let me know what skates you transition to. Thanks for checking out my video!

Great feedback after a year of use! I'm guessing they want you to switch out every 1-2 years if you play lots. I just purchased the FT6 Pro's this past September and continue to love them though its more recreational usage. I can see them lasting half a season to a full season with heavy usage due to the foams they used. Its tough because the feel is so good with the foams, but you can't expect that to last.

I did try the FT-6 Pros on and they immediately feel amazing but the foam feels like the same foam. From my experience with the AS-V Pros I'm fairly certain that the foam will break down fast. I'm only a rec player but I'm 220 pounds (5'10") and I skate hard. Typically I'm on the ice playing or coaching kids around 2-4 hours per week. This is exactly the reason that I bought the top line. In the past the top line felt bad new but once molded and worn 10 hours they felt good and last through a lot of use. Not so now. I think they are targeting casual skaters with the top dollar skates now. I get it, from a business perspective it makes sense but it sure is frustrating for a consumer that is not buying pro gear. Not sure what to buy now. I recently bought some new CCM pants that are team model 95C for $75. I have to say that they are far better quality than anything I see retail so it looks like a trend... also I love the pants.
