It landed on Puth's radar and the two of them performed it live together at a Korean music awards show in 2018.....So Charlie & JK had known about each other for 6 years, and been in communication together for 4-5 years before "Left and Right" was released -- their vocals go so well together!

I remember when this video first came out, when jk sings “how much more do I gotta drink for the pain” and drinks water instead of alcohol, some reactors didn’t understand the joke and thought he wasn’t allowed to drink because he’s an idol. Jungkook absolutely pronounces his name differently for English speaking audiences at times. 정국 in Korean is kinda like jong-goo (yes I know that's not how it's romanized, folks) but when he's speaking to English audiences he sometimes voices the final consonant and changes the vowels a bit for us. 😁 If you look at my name, it's Evan, but I wrote it in Hangeul (I'm studying Korean) and they don't have exactly those sounds. It's pronounced differently. But if I'm introducing myself in Korean, it's easier to say it the Korean way because my mouth is in the right position for Korean 🤣

The other members even call him jungkookie sometimes. In older interviews he prounonced it the Korean way and I remember feeling sad when he started saying the K sound but he is trying to be helpful which is also sweet. Ty!

Jungkook has always been a fan of Charlie Puth. He covered his song We Don’t Talk Anymore years ago. Charlie heard it & liked it. They performed the song together at an awards ceremony in 2018. Y’all can watch their performance sometime & there is also a behind the scenes of them working on the song together backstage. You could tell in it they got each other musically. People have thought they would collab for years. Jungkook frequently mentioned Charlie has someone he wanted to collab with going back since he was young. Charlie has also always been very complimentary of JK. In fact Charlie said that this album is the one that meant the most to him because it is the first album he has released that was what he wanted to do without pressure from his label. Jungkook was the only person featured in the album which to me is a big honor. Charlie has praised JK’s talent & work ethic in tons of interviews since this came out. Charlie says that Jungkook also has perfect pitch (there have also been other instances indicating he does). The behind the scenes on Bangtan TV is longer & gave more info on how it came about & also included JK recording the song. Charlie reached out to JK & asked him to do it. JK said Charlie messaged him in Korean & JK responded in English. I believe JK’s English is better than he gives himself credit for but I don’t believe he is comfortable holding a conversation with someone that speaks fluent English. As someone who is learning Korean, when it comes to pronunciation, the sound is slightly different to English. In Korean they have ㄱ ㅋ ㄲ. ㄱ is what Jungkook has in his name (정국) and is pronounced halfway between a k and a g. ㅋ is more of a k sound while ㄲ is closer to a g sound.

There's also a video of Jungkook recording his vocals for the song and there he explains how it was all set up. I recommend you watch that one someday too, whether in private or on your channel! Also, Daniel is right on the spot with the pronounciation of Jungkook's name. When he speaks to English audiences he tends to just say Jungkook with the K at the end. But in Korean it is pronounced without the K at the end. It's pretty normal to do something like that I think. My name is Stephanie and in Dutch (like I am) it's pronounced differently than in English and to make it easier for everyone I pronounce it like it is in English whenever I talk to someone in English and I have to introduce myself.
