A trivia: AMYGDALA is an almond-shaped little part of your brain where it's main purpose is to trigger your traumatic experiences. As Yoongi explained, example, you are afraid of water, and every time you see a water it reminds you of the day you nearly died because of drowning (reason why you have a phobia in water) In AMYGDALA, the whole summary explanation is that Yoongi wanted to remove these traumatic memories inside him. He wanted to get out of that dark room, and remove himself from all the pain. As the chorus says "AMYGDALA, please save me." he is begging the amygdala to save him because these memories pains him to much. A short memory about Yoongi, ARMYS are aware of his shoulder injury caused by the accident he had before debut. On the MV, he is riding a delivery motorcycle, and that was his job before debut because he lack money to support himself and he landed in different jobs, including being a delivery man. And that's where he met into an accident that caused his shoulder injury. But, because of the fear that they will not let him debut if the company will know about the injury, he hid it from them and continued to have medications only rather that having a surgery. In 2020, he did it already because it came from a point that he can't even lift a water bottle anymore. The self-inflicting that he did with the cutter, some ARMYS believed the scar that Agust D had was self-inflicted. A metaphor of him doing "that" before as an escape. He also did the other way of s**c*de (pills). He mentioned that already once in his song "The Last" that when his doctor asked him, he admitted that he did that. The thing about his parents, it's the first time we heard about that and it was really shocking for us. An ARMY on twitter explained some of the points that can be seen through the MV. First is about the scar. Out of all the MVs that he had scars, some of us thought that it was just a scar, on the interview he did for Daecwhita, he admitted that it was just an idea and there's no meaning behind it. But now that he used the same scar in this MV, doing it by himself, maybe the scar all this time is self-inflicted. He switched his facial expression as Agust D when he had the scar which means that this persona is angry because it was in pain. As quoted, "Agust D was never a villain, he is just broken." It's also a way to understand why he usually k**ls the personas in the Daecwhita and Haegeum, because it's a metaphor of removing his past self (who's in pain and lives in anger) in the present him. You can clearly tell as well why he said that it we have to wait for the time that him as Agust D will be back because he wanted to live as Min Yoongi and as SUGA of BTS now. He is no longer in pain, and in the midst of anger, Agust D is fading inside him. Because he is already at peace. AMYGDALA is not Agust D, its Min Yoongi himself. For him to be this brave to tell a whole story line of his past traumatic experiences was something to be proud and admire of. It takes a lot of courage to do that. We can now clearly understand why this is his favorite among the things that he produced and wrote. He mentioned how hard it is for him to write this as he always gets emotional every time because it is very personal for him. It's his own story. At the end of the MV, he never got out. It means that he already accepted that he will forever live with these memories.

Your explanation of the function of the Amygdala - and the example of drowning creating a fear of water, really hit home for me. It's the example that immediately comes to mind for me also. When my mother was young, she almost died by drowning - on two separate occasions. And she did develop a fear of water. To the extent that she hated getting water on her face when she was in the shower; or when she was washing her hair. And there was no way you could get her in a pool. It affected her entire life. She did try to overcome it at one stage, and even took swimming lessons. Unsuccessfully. Mum couldn't even float - she just sunk to the bottom of the pool. The instructor quickly (and honestly) told her she would never be able to even float, and gave her her money back. She didn't want it to rule her life, but she could never get passed it. Never get passed the fear of being in water, or even having water on her face. ♥️💜

That's what I thought too. He realised that he can't change the past so he stopped trying. I feel like the last few scenes of the video are visual representation of what an amygdala is. A trigger in your brain trying to stop you from recreating your trauma. The old Yoongi on the bike is getting an "epiphany" and ran back to the door. The Yoongi on the otherside trying to stop the trauma from happening by trying to open the door. Idk if I explained it right but that's what I thought when I watched that part.🫶🏾

15:39 no, you don't get any closure. That's the purpose of your Amygdala. It stores all your past traumas and fears and they can be triggered anytime. It's like a loop. You might forget about it but when something triggers it, you'll remember all of those bad stuff you tried burying. I love how Yoongi never sugar coats about it. All you can do is accept those fears and traumas that they exist and they are part of you. They may be ugly, but they made you who you are today.

That's not true, it's to help you grow but as long as you run away or supress the pain it will keep on triggering you. The amygdala is not there to haunt you it's to help you overcome whatever it is that weighs heavy on you. When you accept that it happened and go through the stages like anger, grief etc. then if you make peace with it and yourself you'll have closure. The memories remain and will be diffused from the heavy emotions.

Yo know what scares me a little? For my own experience, when you believe you're healed and somehow end up depressed again, even for a little time, you feel worst, because you thought you were healed. Now, that I know that I'm not 100% healed, I know how to protect myself, be aware, and accept that it's part of me, and that eventually it will go away. It scares me, Yoongi falls down somehow, especially with the military service he has to go, and that he feels even worse. I hope not. For sure, Army will be here for him, no matter what. I hope he knows he doesn't have to prove anything to anyone.

@Marilyn Pérez I hear you. Healing is a process. I am challenged with clinical depression. With meds I've done well. But in real life we are hit with obstacles and challenges. What I learned in therapy is a great analogy. It's like being on a roller coaster, but as you heal the ups and down reduce into less and less of a roller coaster. So the Truth. Of course he is human and susceptible to relapses, but his coping skills are so much better. His choice how to handle those challenges are healthy now. He is choosing what heals him. Like asking for help immediately. Therapy. I've had great therapy. I highly recommend it, but I too have healed so very much. But at any time if I need it I can get therapy. I do know now I have PTSD. I would think with his trauma he has that too. But I'm not a doctor. I don't know. I do know this. He is on a concert tour. I don't know if you know how hard it is to perform and travel to new places and handle tech problems. But he is doing a great job. He is at a high level of coping with intense challenges. He is good. But your point is well taken. Going to the military will be a tough challenge for him. He is used to creating every day of his life. That will be taken away. He will grieve that. It will be hard. But here is one thing that helped. They got to go on break before entering the military. They all got to rest. They all got to get into a good head space. A good mental health state of mind. So he is good now. Will he be mentally challenged in the military? Yes. But he is brave. Brave means facing challenges with fear but surging ahead despite the fear. So I wish you bravery. Feeling your scared feelings but surging ahead anyway. God Bless you for your heartfelt concern for Suga. That shows your great compassion and empathy for him. That's a good thing!!!

I think Yoongi being surrounded by the 6 other members - his brothers as he says - is one of the biggest factor that contributed to Yoongi's healing and the fact that he didn't turn bad... He always said that he feels the most comfortable and at ease when he's with them... There is a Run BTS episode that you didn't watch yet where each member had to write a poem to the members, the one he wrote was titled "what a relief we have each other", I don't want to spoile more so I let you discover the rest.... Also in his track "Dear My Friend", he talk about an old friend that took a different and worst path as him, and I believe if he didn't met the right persons which is Bang PD and especially the 6 other members, maybe he would've take that path too.... So I'm really really glad that they met each other, saved and supported each other... I wish them really the brightest and longest career, and the happiest life, they deserve it so much after what they went through.

Watching him crawl and drag himself through the rain kills me every time. He’s trying so hard to escape his trauma and depression and he just can’t. And I think the crazy camera angles are supposed to represent this being an uphill battle that seems to get tougher as you go. 🥺😭 And his accident was worse than that portrayed. He ended up under the car, and when he opened his eyes he said the tire was right in front of his face. He even lied to the members…told them he fell down some stairs. If you watch Burn The Stage they are sitting around a table talking about it. J-Hope found out right then that it wasn’t a fall. I think he cried. 🥺 Our Yoongi has been through so much. 😣 I’m glad he’s able to process his feelings through his music. Get some of it out. He claims Amygdala,Daechwita (pronounced like day-chi-ta), and Haegeum show him healing and that he’s ok now. 🥹

The raw representation of his pain and sufferings in a more artistic way. Tbh I cried after watching the mv, I just could not stop myself. I can't even imagine how much pain Yoongi went through in his life to reach his now peace, where he is himself, accepting of his past and being hopeful for his future, where he knows even after all those traumas he again reincarnated himself as a blooming lotus, a rising Phoenix which is unstoppable now. My respect for him just skyrocketed. I just love him and wish nothing but the best for this man. I'm just super proud of yoongi to actually get past through such struggles in his past along side the struggles and hate that bts faced together as well. Yoongi is super brave to actually put this out there remembering those dark memories of his life. The shoulder accident during doing a pizza delivery, the lyric when he said " My accident I couldn't even tell someone" breaks my heart. The admins might have told you about this that he didn't tell anyone about his injury instead said that he fell from the stairs in the fear of being cut from the team. He put so much pressure over his shoulder till many years ignoring his pain and kept on dancing but during black swan he couldn't take the pain anymore as the dance required heavy shoulder movements. Hence he took a 3 month break after his shoulder surgery during their "BE" album promotions. his struggles with anxiety, depression, hate, physical and mental health. ( regarding the scar he has said in a previous song "LAST" that he suffered with suicidal thoughts and even went for therapy ) This music video is so dark but so real. we can see the true story of what suga has suffered through.

Yoongi: Every scar is made by yourself. Everything that happens depends on how you take it. Depending on how you accept it, scars can be scars or not. That's what i tried to capture here. This song and MV broke me, honestly. I still cry watching the MV. Yoongi has been through so much and it’s heartbreaking to think he struggled alone for a lot of it. I just saw him in concert in Chicago all 3 nights and I truly believe he is the happiest I’ve ever seen him. I’m sure he still has difficulty because depression doesn’t just disappear, but I think with time and maturity (and likely therapy) he’s learned how to deal with these struggles in a healthy way. I’m thankful he trusts ARMY enough to share these vulnerable moments with and I have no doubt his openness with his mental health struggles will help others as well. After watching this MV, it was very reassuring to me to see him up close and in person looking completely at ease and in his element. I trust him when he says he’s currently in a much better place…he certainly looked incredibly healthy and happy on stage! So thankful for the artist and person that is Min Yoongi. 💜 Thanks for this thoughtful reaction CCW. The fact that there is no “closure” just emphasises the fact that you can’t escape your past. Your Amygdala stores them for ever, they are always there, you just learn to live with it. Yoongi has always said you can’t change what has happened in the past - what’s gone is gone. As an ARMY who has been there since the beginning, this is so hard to watch and re live. Yet when I think about it, Yoongi has lived with it for all of these years for so long keeping to himself. The thing I love is that he feels comfortable enough now to share these inner most fears and thoughts. This is a very raw MV and a very raw song but I absolutely love it.

The fact he went through all of this and decided to share everything with us shows that he trusts us so much, i can't imagine how hard it was for him to relive all these moments with writing this song. I am so proud of the man he has become. I am extremely proud of Yoongi. I am so grateful for him because he gives me strength everyday.

i think this song and the mv perfectly exemplify that struggle between you and your brain. as someone who struggles a lot with my mental health, this song felt very raw to me and it made me think of my own relationship with my brain, this bitterness of just wishing things would get better

As an army since 2016 it's a shame si had only watched this mv once because it had me bawling my eyes out and during the mv release I was at my cousin's having sleepover (they are armys too). That night we didn't do any fun because we were hurt. Edit: this was my second time ever watching it and I'm crying again :') Also, you guys might already know this but here we go, suga didnt tell bighit about his accident in earliest years because he was afraid it could cost in him being dropped out of the group. Neither did he have the money to get his surgery done. When bighit found out they simply paid for his surgery and supported him :')

According to Augst D triology the correct order to watch is, 1)Amygdala- Augst D born in Amygdala 2)Daechwita- According to the lyrics “I’m a king, I’m a boss” scared king killed by scared boss. 3)Haegeum-In haegeum non-scared suga killed scared boss. That’s mean Haegeum is the end of Augst D. If you watch those three in order, you can understand more about the story behind it.

SUGA used to be a part time delivery man during pre debut days and had an accident . He didn't tell the company and the BTS members about it because he's afraid he might get kicked out if they knew his shoulder was injured. He used to take a pill to ease the pain. In 2019, he was diagnosed with 'posterior labral tear on his left shoulder'. And on November 2020, he underwent a surgery.

16:25 guys, forget "the birth of agust d" and it makes worlds of sense. His past self has fought so hard to keep going, live well and make it, but the present self is trapped in all the endless traumas and feels too weak to hang on. The present self at one point wanted to end it all, but decided to make the best choice and try to drag/crawl out. The past self has fought hard for the present self and wants to save him and encourage him to keep fighting, but alas, the past self is in the past and cannot get to the present. Only the present can choose to keep going and make peace with the past.

Yes to Yoongi's intelligence that seeps thru his work!! And agree with Summer's take so much! I remember a saying that goes like grief is something you do not move past, it changes shape and you learn to live with it. I felt like the ending scene is saying that too, that whatever happened is part of him. Maybe there is acceptance and acknowledgement of some feelings or trauma but it is never truly gone. In one way or another, it shaped you; who you are now is a result of what you went through.

Yoongi is a master storyteller.... a fellow army best explained the trilogy as - Daechwita... ridding himself of the need to prove his worth to others Haegum... ridding himself of the confines of modern society Amygdala... he investigates the inner demons and trauma that started his confinement in the first place.

Younger Suga on the bike at the end has an epiphany moment BEFORE the next residual "loop" memory replays again for the millionth time (as all that Augst D has been able to do up to this point is just re-live the tragedies over and over and over again in a downward spiral). Suga races to the door in a effort to stop the chaos and let Augst D out of his brain/Amygdala...and realizes that he can't change the past nor save himself from what he will have to go though as the door is locked. The 2 identities that make up Suga/Augst D will always be a part of him as we can't change our pasts no matter how much we wish we could. BUT, young Suga BROKE the haunting loop memory by finally breaking out of that cycle ( Yes, you were right, that scene takes place now BEFORE the car crash is supposed to happen) AND doing so, something different, for the first time, resulted in him actually WANTING to save his own life now for the first time. While the two entities will always be separate, breaking the mental loop of re-living tragedy every day brings the 2 entities into one and ignites the healing transformation that brings him to today as a prolific songwriter, story teller, survivor and massive mental health advocate and ally. This is literally one of the best songs ever made. Suga/Augst D is a fkn genius.

At the end of the final D-day concert (d-day the final day 3), yoongi finally opened his door. He can finally coexist with his past, accept it, and move forward. Although there is no "real closure” for many ppl with any form of trauma, learning to live with it and accept it as part of you is the goal many of us seek and I'm glad yoongi was able to.

To me, as someone who's been through some stuff, I've had so many times where I've begged my past self to do something different. You're so stuck in a loop of memories and you try and picture the different choices you could have made to change things so you're not stuck in the suffering now. But obviously, no matter how many times you go over it, or try and make sense of things and wonder 'if only' you're still stuck with the same nightmares.... it kinda feels like that same feeling in this song and mv to me. Love this song so much.

I don't know if you've find closure to the door not opening but i have. During his concert D-Day Tour on the last day, a replica of door was the door he walked out of at the end of the concert. It was simply telling that, he is healing. The door when it was shown on the stage set for the last day of his concert, armies present at the concert literally cried, everyone was comforted and found closure So I suggest you watch the last show of his tour, you will get the closure needed.. ❤❤ Ps. The thing you said about the rotation of the camera and all the angled shots while he was crawling , it symbolises the uphill battle with him trying to get out of that black and dark room of his mind which is also represents the Amygdala. It's there to let us know that the closer he gets to the door ,which symbolises hope and freedom from his Amygdala, the harder it is to reach there

I've seen ppl say that the ending of the MV symbolizes that no matter how much you heal and get help, there's always a part of you that you never get back, you can't go back to being the same person you were before your trauma, you can only overcome it, but you will cary that change for the rest of your life. It's so beautiful how suga has overcome so much in his life and chose to share all of this with army, this video breaks my heart everytime

Omg, it's the first time I've been very moved seeing a reaction. Amygdala is such a personal song for Yoongi, it is the story of all the fights he has had for years from the motorcycle accident that dislocated his shoulder to his parents' illness. There was a lot of anger inside him and with this anger Agust D was created. D-Day is an album that moved me, Suga always had deep lyrics, but this album overcame everything. Thank you, guys, for reacting to him and for being so interested in our boys. I always watch your channel, it's my favorite, I don't miss 1 video. Keep up the impeccable work. 💜
