Nathan never smoked cigarettes, but he worked in a smoky casino, and this permanently damaged his lungs. He slowly became too sick to dance at Pow-Wows, a part of his Oglala Sioux tradition. He said, "It's like breathing through a straw. You can't get enough air." In this video, he explains how he copes when his body says "No." Nathan spoke out as part of CDC's Tips From Former Smokers campaign. He died at 54 of illnesses caused by secondhand smoke exposure.
