The more I listen to Porpora's music, the more I think his music deserves more exposure!

A beautiful secret ? Classical and Early Music will always be appreciated by a minority, for a number of reasons, mainstream entertainment is happy to focus on a very narrow band (usually bland also) of the repertoire, for instance have you noticed how mainstream films when dealing with history play such clichéd clips of baroque or early music from the Elizabethan period, exquisite or powerful work is rarely, if ever given an airing and it feeds a non thinking audience in general..rather like populist politicians currently..Bland non awareness is best , keep people dumb..

Ms. Bartoli does credit to Nicola Porpora who was well known as a masterful teacher of singing. She sings not just with her voice, but with her body and soul. This is an extraordinary performance.

Magnifica esecuzione. Mi rincresce aver conosciuto Porpora solo di recente grazie a quella meraviglia del Salve Regina che mi ha letteralmente ammaliato. Cecilia è un prodigio.

Bartoli sometimes goes too far but here she demonstrates her superb musicality and sensitivity to the composer's intent and demands; Porpora is a much greater composer than is generally recognized, especially for the human voice.

Года четыре назад случайно купила CD Cecilia Bartoli. Про нее ничего не знала. Тогда каждый день слушала IL DIVO. Искала в магазинах их диски. Привлекло,что она исполняла произведения Николо Порпора. Потом слушала каждый день. Ничего , кроме БРАВА!!! ВОСХИТИТЕЛЬНО!!! Сейчас младшую внучку укладываю спать под Моцарта , ария Керубино в исполнении Cecilia Bartoli. Ей очень нравится, хотя нам всего 8 месяцев.

Какая Вы молодец! Прививка красоты, а тем более такой безоблачной и божественно-ангельской, какой является музыка барокко, - это единственная прививка, которую допустимо - и необходимо! - делать ребенку. Прекрасно, если это удастся продолжить и в более старшем возрасте. Ведь красота - это едва ли не единственное противоядие, которое способно защитить человека от безобразия и пошлости нынешней жизни.

Yes and no. Yes it’s most likely obscure to anyone that doesn’t listen to opera as HymnofAshes said. No to anyone that listens to Opera and Classical music. Bartoli is one of the best known opera singers in the world and this album in particular “Sacrificium” was a best seller by even pop standards. Hundreds of millions of copies were sold in the first month. So this lineup of arias are fairly popular and well known now.

Wow! She's still got it. Not every choice she makes is good but then whose are? It's not often a superstar uses their status to bring so much obscure but excellent music to more prominence. Porpora, Caldara, Allessandro Scarlatti … there's a few out there who wrote absolute treasures. Thanks to her and a few others who really aren't doing this for the money we're hearing them, and done beautifully. Way to go Lady.

At 2:18 - 2:45, heartbreaking chord progressions. Compare "Alto Giove" at 2:03 - 2:42. Mozart is rolling over in his grave, wishing he had written these.

I believe this was composed for castrato voice. Practically nobody can sing it now. Maybe why this is not performed too much. Cecilia does great job.

It's from the opera "Germanico in Germania" by Porpora, premiered in 1732. The aria is sung by Arminio, the Germanic chieftain.

Она поёт Порпору,, то есть барочную музыку. Бельканто это чуть позже. Россини, Беллини, Доницетти. Послушайте Чечилию в Золушке Россини. Совсем другое пение. А чьё исполнение этой арии вам нравится больше? Интересно было бы сравнить.
