Thanks for the video. I just bought the same pergola at Sam's club, it was on clearance. I am glad I didn't purchase it a month ago when I first saw it, i just saved $400.

Good deal, mine has been up for a year now, looks pretty much like the day I got it. I did have those couple pieces that were damaged, emailed the company, they sent me 2 pieces out no charge took about 2 days so great customer support. Thanks for watching, if you haven't subscribed yet I would appreciate it. Summer time is great for sales for next summer. lol

hi! would love updates on the structure? whats the strongest wind gusts it's lived up to? did you stain? could I attach a swing to it?

Still standing strong, cat2 hurricane so around 110mph sustained winds. Have not stained it came that color and is pretty much still the same color. I don't think I would attach a swing to it unless you re-enforce whichever beam you want to put it on and maybe add a little stability somewhere. The structure is not designed to really "swing" on,, its more of a free standing square vs something like an A-frame, you could hang it there for looks possibly sit on but I'm about 6' 240 would not try to swing on it. Maybe if I were 5'6 and 120 I wouldn't think twice about it. lol

Nice video - very clear, easy to hear. Would be curious what you finally did for the bottom mounting plates. Looking at what comes in the box and how it's attached to the pergola - pretty sketchy plastic pieces that attach to the wood posts via 4 screws? I'm in AZ and plastic doesn't do so good outside 🙂 Will probably getting the metal anchor plates and then fashion some sort of cover.

It is still out there a year later, looks a little faded but still holding. I did use all the factory hardware, like anything you can always make it better. I have not done anything to anchor it, just sitting on the concrete. I'm in the Myrtle Beach SC area, so I haven't been hit with anything major but it sat thru a Cat1 and a couple tropical storms so far, hasn't moved. Also full sun all day, not quite AZ heat but mid to high 90's all summer long. Besides a chunk where the Rottweiler was trying to catch a lizard still holding strong. I never did a follow up but the pieces that were damaged, the factory shipped out new ones within a few days had them, no issues at all. Great customer support. We are wanting to purchase one but add swings in-between post. Have you seen anyone do this? Do you recommend adding extra support?

@@51661donnalee Have not seen this done but absolutely recommend additional crossbeam support! The "beams" (really, they are boards) are two pieces that connect in the middle. Use, at a minimum, a 2x4 spanning post to post. Your best bet would be to have the swing closer to a post than in the middle, even w/ the added 2x4. Not an engineer but based on the materials used, this would be my suggestion.

Would you please give a link to which metal footing you used? I am thinking of pouring 18-inch deep and 8” diameter concrete cylinder for those 4 posts and like to use metal footings. Your help will save me a lot. I appreciate your help. Thank you 😊

Mine is on a flat concrete surface so I did not use any footing, just the wood to the concrete. Been there a year and a half now, still looks good. Starting to fade a little, but is in full Myrtle Beach sun all day. If you were just pouring footings in the ground I would use www.lowes.com/pd/Simpson-Strong-Tie-Steel-Painted-Post-Base-Common-4-in-Actual-3-in/3030292 to bolt to the footings and you would need www.lowes.com/pd/Hillman-1-2-in-x-8-in-Anchor-Bolt/4395613 to put in the concrete it sets to line up with the posts. Hope that helps or gives you some Ideas, been quite happy with the purchase and the company stands behind their product well, had that one damaged part made a call and 2 days later had a replacement.

@@aavmesh Found this if you have never seen the J bolts before kzfaq.infoKHgPAzEg0Yc just make sure you have your anchors there with you so you can fit them straight. Maybe get 4 - 5 Gallon buckets from a box store, fill it with concrete and drop it in the hole. You could then turn them a little if need be to align the posts? Sounds like a good idea.... lol
