I think a watch like the Lang can be defined a sports watch, to the same extent that a Bentley continental gt is defined a sports car. Of course it not a Ferrari, but still a sports car.

Thanks for the information. For me, "sports" watch should have robust shock protection, decent water rating and a full balance bridge.

It's a bit of a waste of effort to focus on deciding which category the Hektor fits in to. This piece is a big, open, classic dial on a steel bracelet, simple (zero complications) and oh yeah, it also has a ridiculously good movement and oh yeah, it's also by Lang & Heyne. That's its category. I'm curious if anyone knows the story behind why they chose the petticoat theme? Anyway, I'm a fan. I think it's details done right.

The new independent brands with relatively small production numbers benefit in another way - exclusivity. As soon as a positive consensus (usually on the internet) begins to form, there are enough people who will buy it and then the FOMO crowd buys. Suddenly you have sold out piece with a waiting list and others are willing to pay a premium for it. The question is how many independent brands can be sustained by current demand?

I don’t see why Lang & Heyne Hektor shouldn’t be a sports watch. Royal Oak was first introduced as a luxury sports watch. It had no sporty complications, only 50m water resistance, was not particularly shock resistant, and no one seemed to have a problem with its classification.

Those Czapek Antarctiques are a gift right now. They will be future classics and i would be surprised if they dont see 10 year waiting lists soon.

Always enjoy these discussions and the differing perspectives you discuss. It’s also interesting how our opinions of some watches can change so much over time. For example 5 years ago I would have never considered buying a dress watch, or a gold watch. Recently i purchased a Lange 1 in rose gold and am now I’m obsessed with picking up a more watches in this “dress” category. Thx for the great content.

I think brands like Rolex will move upmarket. They now know that people are willing to pay more for their watches. So why not increase prices while offering more for the money? A bigger better more refined Daytona would sell just as much if not more at 16k euros instead of 12.6
