Wow I can’t believe we’ve officially been living in Sasebo for ONE YEAR! We are just shy of 4 years total in Japan (May 5, 2021 will be our 4 year anniversary!) and today we are celebrating by going to the Westernmost point on mainland Japan to a park called Kozakibana Park (神崎鼻公園). This is the first place Jason and I went when we moved to Sasebo last year. We were still living in the Navy Lodge and thought it looked like a fun place to check out! The views here are gorgeous and it really made me fall in love with Sasebo when we first got here. I have such fond memories of this park and had to come back to reflect on my first year here in Sasebo.
The drive is about 30 minutes from main base or 50 minutes from Hario. The drive is pretty easy with a few twists and turn, but hardly any traffic! You won't pay any tolls coming from Main Base, but you will pay the 160 yen toll from Hario (or 110 yen on a weekend/holiday). There is a nice parking lot with plenty of spaces to park and a bathroom. I think this would be the perfect place to pack a picnic and enjoy with your friends or family! This park can get a little crowded on the weekends and also a little windy. There is only 1 picnic table but there are LOTS of benches and a large field.
Happy Trails coffee is currently (as of Feb 2021) only doing take-out so you can still enjoy coffee from them no matter what! You can wait in your car and they will deliver it right to you. They have English on their menu as well making it easy to order.

Yay! How is the hospital care there? On and off base if you've experienced it.

The clinic on base is fine. I’ve only been once so can’t really speak to that. Military medicine is military medicine lol. If you aren’t a Japanese citizen then you’ll need a referral to go to an off base hospital and as of right now they are not seeing anyone (due to covid) unless it is an emergency.
