my local grocery store sells a reusable bag that's like a box basically but its over the weight limit for self checkouts 'i have my own bag' option so every time i use it at that store they clerk has to come over and override it anytime i add something that's weighed like produce so i just don't use it anymore KEKW

The reason the UI is bad in most self-checkouts (and a lot of other public-use software) is because people generally go with the lowest bidder/quote for a contracted job, so they're trading good customer experience for a lower monetary price. And you get what you pay for, which in this case is a product that works, but not as well as it could.
