Imagine if a car from 1954 was still sold in 2024 with minimal changes to the design. The word classic is overused by marketers today but the Fender Stratocaster is truly worthy.

Sorry but for the price they are asking in 2024 and the ongoing QC issues you can get way more value and quality for your money when looking at other brands like Ibanez, Schecter, Sire, Harley Benton just to name a few. I ordered 3 american made strats over 2000€ which all had terrible QC issues. Sharp frets, scratches, badly mounted pickups just to name a few issues .

My assumption was Fender being thrifty already had a ton of 3 way switches, so he just put them in the Stratocasters and Telecasters. You can imagine that a part like that which goes in every guitar being the same would have helped reduce costs, and made logistics easier. They have the same pots too.

The Strat is such a timeless and all-encompassing guitar that can easily cover any style of music with the right pickup setup. The only nitpick I have is the placement of the volume knob so close to the bridge. But that's definitely a me-problem, since my picking hand really goes wild sometimes.

Can't believe you didn't get a genuine vintage strat to throw into the mix. I would have lent you my '58. I'd love to see how it would stack up to tree modern stuff. I've owned a ridiculous amount of Stratocasters but nothing else feels, sounds, looks or smells (yes really!) like that guitar.

Leo Fender liked to work with a French Curve set when designing, because he was trained as an engineer and French Curves were commonly used. Check out a set and you see every curve on the Strat and Telecaster. Leo was genius enough to put it all together, which is stunning this many years later, when both are hugely popular guitars.

The dual pickup setup on a Telecaster was to buck the hum. At that time many bars did not have earthed wallwarts. So there was often this 60 cycle hum. Accentuated by single coils. In that instance a humbucking solution was a savior.

The strat is turning 70 for a reason, it is just a perfect guitar that works in every scenario and genre. But besides that it is the perfect canvas for mods. Mine was born like a US Highway One 2008, Got it used at a store and I choose this one from other 12 available in every price range. It just felt great (Besides the previous owner dropped custom shop texas specials pickups. Many years later and after the capable hands of my luthier, this guitar has new paint, new plastic kits, New paint job, HSS conversion (Suhr Aldrige / Texas Specials/Texas Specials, fender locking tuners, babicz full contact bridge, shaller, strap locks, gotoh plug. This guitar plays like a custom shop without effort, but it was my project, it is my strat!

the 70th pro-ii in cosmic burst also has a bone nut. Special case, bone nut, locking tuners, special neck plate, special pickups and the flame maple top is actual flame maple and not a wallpaper. Every strat has a different pattern and paint pattern. Some are heavy red like a sienna burst with the flame at 45 degrees. Some are more brown with even odd horizontal flame. Some have horizontal and vertical flame.

There is no doubt that the Fender Stratocaster is the icon electric guitar that it is. I think that Fender in many ways has lost the plot since they got it right first time around. Produced as an affordable guitar for the masses. Why now are there so many different series, variations and specifications and options available when all is needed is a high quality instrument true to the original and at an affordable price, far from the crazy custom shop prices. This video demonstrates this by showing the 70th anniversary model in all its guises without touching on the Customshop and Masterbuilt models. Well that's my gripe for the day.😊

MIM Vintera II 70s Strat also looking to added on the list soon. Coming soon in April. It has 70s large head, a serial number on the face of head stock and even starts with 'S- ' just like late 70s strats, 3 bolt neck plate with 70th anniversary logo on it, and unique Antigua finish plus hardtail. I'm very happy because I'm a big fan of 70s strats, especially late 70s. Good to see one added on the anniversary line up. Some would say why the hell 70s CBS era strats are added on 70th anniversary, but it's close enough to good old strats, far better than AmPro2 or Ultra strats IMO.

According to Wikipedia - which we all know is never wrong, ahem! 😜- the 5-way switch was only officially introduced in 1976, so during the CBS era. However, many guitarists would file down the metal dents between the notches on the switch themselves so as to stabilize the in-between positions, effectively creating "3+2" switches - when used normally, they still felt like 3-way switches, but it was then fairly easy to position the switch in between the 3 main positions and keep it there. Likewise, aftermarket companies also started offering such "3+2" switches, probably before 1976. Another mod that I've seen on a few Strats --- albeit not that many - was to use individual on/off mini-toggles for each pickup, an approach which during the 1980s would also appear on many superstrat-type guitars. I'm not sure who the first guitarist was to discover that you could get a different sound when moving the switch in between the three positions, but the three names you'll commonly come across as using the in-between sounds long before 5-way switches arrived are Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton and Buddy Guy. 😉
