Our Dads sound a lot alike. There used to be a man named Sterling Marple who built houses in our town. He took a liking to Dad when Dad was young and he hired him to help with some of the building jobs that he did. Dad said he learned a lot from Sterling and Dad was always able to do whatever needed done at our house. I remember only once when Dad hired a job done and that was when he and Mom had an addition built on to our home around 1986. My husband knew nothing about building anything when we were married and Dad taught him a lot over the years. He's grateful now as he can do a lot of our projects himself. The older generation really took things into their own hands and took life seriously. I think we need more of that today.

Dear Tipper, Im sorry you broke your rear, and have a dent still to this day, but let me express my thanks for making me chuckle because I have not had my mind off of my mom since she died a little over a week ago at age 92. We buried her only a little over 48 hours ago. And when you went into your fall and how you didnt break anything except you broke your rearend, I can honestly say, it was something that worked to temporarily and completely take my mind off of the internal sorrow and loss I've been feeling for days. So you just never know what your stories and your channel is doing to help people. Your story just really made me chuckle aloud. Thank you sweet lady. God bless you and yours. Take care. 🙏

I didn't see an assistant. I saw a team. A man who knew his place and a woman who knew hers. Just as God planned. The Bible says she was "meet" for the man. They came together just right. They fit. When we get out of God's plan.... we see a wrecked society. Just like we have today. We need to recognize God's plan is right and get back in it. Shovel the rest into a hole and flush it.

I am so glad I am not the only one who is not as steady on their feet as they used to be! Not that I want anyone else to fall, but it makes me not feel so bad about getting older knowing I am not the only one! 😊 I am only 52 but over the last few years I have fallen 3 times! Two of those times I tripped and landed on my knee and scraped it up so deep that it took about three months to heal! The other time I was in my kitchen cleaning out a cool mist humidifier and stepped on the cord that was hanging on the floor and I fell to the ground and into the refrigerator and pantry and broke my pinky finger so bad that I had to have two surgeries on it! I never thought I'd see the day I would be someone who was prone to falling! I am thankful to be able to get older, but I wish I still felt as young, energetic, and steady as I used to! LOL

Y'all talking about hard work, how it's good for a person, I couldn't agree more. Seems like modern man pays other people to do things, then lose their physical fitness, then pay somebody to make them workout at a gym and get fit again. I am only as fit as I am thanks to having a lot of yard-work to do out here in the country (gyms/fitness clubs don't appeal to me). If we moved to the city I think my body'd fall apart, lol. Love listening to you all visit, always learn some little (or big) something here. THANK YOU!!! 🙌🏼 💓

You and Matt really make me miss my mommy and daddy, but you are a comfort as well. The things you do and say bring back memories. I'm praying for granny, being in a wheelchair I can sympathize with her about not being able to do the things you have always done, it can make you feel worthless, and a bother to everyone. It is too bad we have to get old or hit by a big duce & a 1/4 That is a 225 Buick Electra being chased by the police at over 100 miles an hour, I was driving my new VW beetle. I loved my beetles they rarely got stuck to where I couldn't get them out. If I got stuck in a snow drift, I would put it in 1st gear and then bounce on the back bumper and walk her out then run and jump in and go. God bless you all.

Speaking of falls, several years ago my husband and I were painting the soffit. Actually he wouldn’t climb that high so I said heights don’t bother me so I will do it. I climbed up the extension ladder with a can of paint and brush and just at the top the ladder slid down and I fell in a huge shrub. What a bruise I had on my backside! My husband bragged I fell still holding the paint can and didn’t spill a drop 😊 Next time, he braced that ladder so this wouldn’t happen again.

If you find yourself in Petersburg when you're back east, there's this place called Blue Willow Tea Room that's essentially the ground floor of a three story antique shop. Nearly everything in the tea room has a price tag on it and then you can shop your way into the rest of the building. If getting caffeinated and then browsing through old croquet sets and armoires excites you, it's a great stop. Were I not hours away they'd probably have all of my money.

I feel for Katie when you were talking about her breaking her tailbone. I've broke mine twice. The first time was when I was 18, as kids do, I opened my friends car door and just plopped into the seat, and she had a little VW that the passenger seat wasn't securely connected right and the top of it came unhooked from the bottom and my tailbone hit a small metal box where it should have been connected and it cracked my tailbone. That's a kind of pain that is hard to describe, but it does take your breath away for a few minutes. And the 2nd time was when I was hit by a drunk driver in a hit and run which landed my front bumper wrapped around a tree. And you're right Tipper, those kinds of injuries don't fully heal and will follow you throughout your life with pain. I worry about her now during birth, because it could easily cause more pain. Bless her heart.

Boy Howdy, your stories about falling were making me feel the OUCH!!! And I totally relate to the fear. I went to my daughter's house today to do some much needed pruning of old-growth Rhododendrons, Lilacs, and other overgrown shrubbery around the property. She and her family weren't at home while I was there. More than a few times I was very tempted to get the ladder out to lop off some of the higher branches. Decided to pass on that idea, because the places I'd have to set up the ladder were just too uneven, soft, and precarious! Not too long ago, I wouldn't have even thought twice about it. Aging definitely puts us through some changes, doesn't it? I have a hard time accepting them... Hey, I can't wait to see how the steps and walkway turn out. That is going to make things SO much easier. Yay, Matt!!! Continued prayers for Granny. Peace be with you. 💚

Y’all are both hard working people for sure. I agree it best to move as much as you can, while you can, because when you get up in your 60’s it gets harder to do as much. It goes down hill after your 60’s if one does keep moving and doing. I fell a couple of years back just walking through a door, tripped and fell right into the wall. I cracked 2 ribs. Most painful thing I have ever experienced. About 10 years back I fell down my back porch steps. I damaged my left leg and still to this day I have a dent in my leg between my angle and calf. I was just thankful each time I didn’t break anything. I do have a fear going down steps and watch what I do walking through doors. I reckon that fear will never leave me.

I really look forward to the videos you upload on Sundays and I enjoy listening to you and Matt just having a casual conversation about your memories and your daily life. It's so nice to see a married couple spend time together just talking. I think that is disappearing in today's hurried culture and that's part of the reason people end up divorcing. Gee Matt your Labour is so intensive. If it were me, I would likely hire a bull-dozer, not a sleeping bull, and flatten that land back and put a retaining fence up against the remaining bank or grate it out so it is like a 25-degree angle. Then build your steps. But I don't know I am not you. I don't know what it would cost to get a Dozer but I think if you did it that way you would have more land to work with and the water wouldn't run off down the hill if the slope was less steep. I am sure Tipper would be thrilled with all the good coming out of that creation. You Guys work so hard. My Dad hired a Payloader and it dug out the basement. Saved a lot of time and then things moved a lot faster. Y'all have enough to do with the gardening. Just think if it were leveled when you did get rain it wouldn't be a landslide. Your Videos are really Addictive. A level ground holds the necessary water for your crop I think. Unless you are growing cacti. I like to work steadily too and not too hard due to I only have one back and I prefer to save it to carry me instead of being bedridden from overwork. It can be rewarding to do things the way you do them but in the end is it really worth it? Thanks for sharing your life on You Tube.

Last night was the first night here in FL I slept under warmer covers. I'm looking at the colors over your shoulders, it's so pretty! We don't have that yet. Goodness, those squash are huge! The nasturtium blossoms are edible and have a nice flavor similar to a light black pepper. They are good as a pretty on top of a salad and taste delicious. Watching Matt talk about putting the steps in, that's a great idea. I was thinking maybe putting in some rock or concrete block behind the boards as support for when the boards rot. LOL I love how y'all toast with your popsicles. Talking about falling, my daughter has a puppy at that zoomie happy stage, and I'm so afraid of him tangling my feet. I've been teaching him to sit if he wants petting, but he's also old enough to get a pop on the nose for jumping. I'm a little older than y'all, and scared of getting stove up. My back, hips and knees are not good anymore just from my working life. Be careful. None of us are getting any younger. I'm looking at finding a smallish piece of land up near you, north GA maybe. I'm having some life changes happening and it's time to look at a new home land. Can't afford NC, but GA maybe. Listening to Matt talking about building, my daddy and his build partner would buy falling apart houses and fix them to sell. That was in the 60s. They used hand tools, not electrics. It was hard work. I remember taking over thermoses of water and tea to them, and going to tell them lunch was ready, and them sitting in our backyard at the end of the day having iced tea and then a beer while they had sausages on the grill, or hamburgers. We were little, I was 5 or 6. But I've always had physical outdoor jobs. I'm concerned about my future and what I can do, but I sure am going to try. I just can't stay here, and need to look a good future. I won't be building, I'll be buying a small one with enough space to garden for my food, have some chickens and my dogs and cats, and quiet except for nature around me. Blessed be to your family, you give me such peace. Thank you.

Proud of Matt for eating such a healthy breakfast. Tipper, you’re right about falling, not easy as you get older. I’ve said to many people, we don’t fall like we use to as kids. Take care y’all, enjoy the cooler air. I didn’t make it to the Brasstown Fall Festival, maybe next year. God bless & keep you, see ya next time. 😊❤😊🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

My livelihood was mostly made doing clerical work with electric typewriters and computers from simple up to much more sophisticated ones. I did pricing, quotations and contracts for a wood interior stair and railing company for 27 years. After a nine and a half hour day grinding away at such, I was tired and quite ready to go home at the end of most days. The brain represnts about 2% of one's body weight, but burns 20% of your calorie intake doing all the concious and sub-concious activities brains do. I greatly admire folks who work at skilled manual labor and wish I had more aptitude and initiative to have done more myself.

Tipper you are surely blessed with Matt and he with you. Lots of things to get done to winterize the garden. The steps will be awesome next spring. Prayers continue for granny. I'm 64 and do not like to fall.

Tipper, watching you harvest your bean seeds made me think of my mama’s hands. I think someone wrote a song about their mama’s hands. So I suppose it isn’t an original thought. But my mama was an old school type of woman. I miss her terribly since she’s gone home to Jesus. I was reminiscing about how my mama’s hands were soft and warm when I was sick or needed comforting. They were hard to work the garden. They were nimble to pray the rosary. They wore scars from accidental burns and cuts. They were tough to teach lessons. They were shaky as she aged. They were still and cold when she left us. I’ll always remember the feel of my mama’s hands.

Have yall ever thought about doin your sit down and chattin or reminiscen around a fire at night? While you were telling the stories about that different falls yall have experienced, I had a picture in my head of sittin around a camp fire, absorbed in the flames and hearing these stories. Great video as always!

I never had a favorite time of year until I moved to south eastern Kentucky! It is in the foothills of the Appalachian mountains and it is stunning! We had a frost last night so I harvested a ton of stuff today, but I did not even get to! But it’s out in the greenhouse under cover so I will be doing that I’ll probably tomorrow! I was not able to let my beans dry on the bone because of the cabbage worm that was eating them up and I just couldn’t keep up caring For them. I’ve been not feeling well for quite some time, and I certainly hope and pray that it’s not Lyme disease! Please pray for me! Thank you so much!

It was cold this morning ( 36 degrees) , and the older I get the more I feel it . Different weather pattern this year , the cold air is slamming into us instead of easing in over time . Comfrey is good for the bones . Stubbed my toe on a ottoman this passed week , almost cried . First thing I did was rub Comfrey ointment on it , relieves most of the pain . Tell Matt there are times when I want to go outside an holler , but can't because of too many neighbors . 🐓🐓🐓

Re. cordless power tools , it may be useful to know that adapters can be had these days so that your Milwaukee / Dewalt / Makita 18v / 20v battery can fit the tools of the other brand . The adapters are cheaper than a new battery if you happen to have a mix of tools and batteries .

Matt is right . . . do as long as you can. I am closer to 79 than 78 and planning to climb on the roof and use an extension brush to clean the stove pipe before this year's first fire. How many more years will I be able to do that? Matt is smart about being cautious about falls. At 60 a six-foot ladder tipped over with me and I probably cracked a rib shortly after I retired. Lesson learned. Tipper, you're in good hands . . . he will fix that slope so you won't fall. As I type I am hearing a V of geese fly over my house. We're in the changing time . . . everybody enjoy!

Koreans actually eat quite a bit of acorn - we grind them down to powder and make acorn 'jelly'. Acorn jelly is known for its 'cooling' effect on the body and anti-inflammatory properties. It is also known to be good for digestion. It is flavorless and takes on the taste of whatever it is cooked with. Its largely eaten in the summer and pairs well with sour foods, cold soup and salad.

My name is Bylinda and I am 71 and will be 72 next month. Last month I was letting my dogs ( 3 chihuahuas) out the back door so they could do their business. While standing in the doorway i chose that particular time to pass out. First time i have ever done it. Hit my ribs from under my left breast all the way down. Came to on the deck and partially on an Adirondack chair. I managed to get up but it took me weeks to breath or even move without pain. Sure glad that one is behind me.

Tipper, thank you for stating that office work, computer work, deadlines, etc comes with its own type of tiredness. I worked in hospital medical records and at a university. There were days it was exhausting. I knew a few people that thought if you worked at a desk in heat and air conditioning, you weren't really working.

Hello Matt and Tipper, the best time to till your garden area is on one of the coldest day to kill bugs and the eggs that lay dormant. If you have a mini tiller you could also till the raised bed to expose the little creatures to the extreme cold to rid them as well. You will still have a few the next garden season but they will be the ones that didn't get the grounds turned. We had our first cool day Sunday it was nice . God bless
