So happy to see your garden thriving. I've been gardening my entire life including 30 years here. I live in southern WV. I've never experienced this severe garden failure before. We have literally received 1-2 inches of rain every day for weeks. Violent storms in the spring caused me to plant my entire garden three times and now this. No beans, no tomatoes. A few beets and cukes. No squash, onions, or pumpkins. Maybe some corn if it would stop but it's not supposed to. And my neighbors have suffered the same fate. I'm 64 and don't see myself dealing with this again. Things are just so different in our world now, including the weather! Enjoy that beautiful garden and I'll enjoy it with you! I had a friend that had seed saved an heirloom variety that her father had seed saved and the okra could get big and stay tender. I wish I had some of her seeds! I live in town and have recently retired and want to start gardening more. Your videos are so grounding for me. I feel like a friend and neighbor. I thank you for sharing your life with us.

Well...Mat...I am a Fall and Winter person myself!! I miss living in the country...lived in Vermont for 10 years back in the mid to late 70s. People were so nice. Watching you brings back so many memories. Thank you.

My Pa (grandfather) ate “string beans” ever day of his life. Me & Ma grew them. Endless hours stringing beans, cannin beans. Pa lived to age 104! We do believe in green beans.

I laughed out loud about the bean vine trying to attach to you and grow. God’s creation is so amazing!

Love the garden/popsicle talks you and Matt share. I pulled up my tomato plants except for the Cherokee purple it has two marble size tomatoes. I'm holding out hope. Also we are in a drought but the last 3 days we've gotten over 3 inches. We had a storm Friday that blew a tree down in my yard but thankfully it didn't hit my house. I'm not complaining we so needed the rain.

Growing up on the farm, mom always canned what she called “cellar soup” because that’s where we stored it. All the different veggies from the garden. It was so good on cold winter days.

I am from Western NC, and so I really enjoy your videos, and your girls' videos. I live in Colorado now, moved away 3 years ago to Louisiana first and now Colorado. But Lordy I miss NC so much. The garden, fresh and home cooking, your accents, strong tight family ties, dark silence at night other than crickets, and frogs. Fire flies, lightning bugs,... I believe without a doubt that Appalachia, especially the Smoky mountains, Snowbird Mountains, Western NC,...is the best place in the world to raise a family. Its great to see such strong family ties. Corie and Austin beginning their life in Appalachia... All this is so great, and I relate to all of it so much. I watch both channels, and I watch your videos with such intent, content, and happiness that touches deep, Brings Me home!! Thank you so much.

I saved watching this until the end of the day because I knew how soothing it would be to spend time with you & Matt in the garden. Growing up in southern California we called a bad cloudburst like that a gullyswamper. In desert country you never want to bed down in a dry creek bed because of the danger of flash floods. Even though it's all clear skies where you are, it might be raining upstream.

What a bounty! Having a garden takes work and commitment but is so satisfying. You guys are charming to watch as you take a break. It IS hard to believe it’s August. I’m already starting to miss fresh corn and tomatoes. Thanks for sharing.

I love to hear the wildlife in your garden, it is totally different to mine in England. Your garden is amazing with so much produce, and to think you will can virtually everything which will feed your family for the whole year. My garden now is mainly flowers, shrubs and trees although I do have seem raised beds with a dwarf apple tree, a strawberry patch, french beans, runner beans, blueberry bush and tomatoes. I only have five tomato plants which my son tends as he seems to have the magic touch. I have some small planters with radish and beetroot but the radish bolted in the freak heat. The malabar spinach has made about 6feet in height but I am hopeful for a picking to steam. The bottom of the garden is kept as a wild garden with native wild flowers. There is a small pond for frogs and hedgehogs and birds to use. We have a lot of wild bird feeders which we keep filled all year round. Would love a day in your garden, especially with the popsicles!

This weekend I went up to southern Maine to visit friends. They had a garden and we ate the fresh beans and summer squash. It was just so delicious, and so different from the veggies we buy in the supermarket. I love seeing your wonderful garden.

Years ago when my husband was alive we had a large garden and it seemed that the more beans you picked the more came along. Aside from cooking them as a vegetable I made mustard beans and dilled beans so we were eating them well into winter.

Very nice to sit in on your garden conversations with Matt. As we get into our senior years we gradually become the last survivor and there are fewer and fewer left to converse with. Until the last ten days or so here in central Texas the heat and drought was very oppressive and now days in the lower 90's almost seem like an early autumn. The locusts singing their summer song in the background take my memories back to always because never a summer goes by without hearing them . Loved this video most out of the ones I have seen so far. I was born and raised in Eastern North Dakota but moved to the Cincinnati area in 2001 at 34. Such a very different area to learn about. Loved the peace in this video. Just sit, relax, chat and take in the beauty. My mom now lives in a memory care facility back in ND but my whole life has been sitting outside with her and just taking it all in. Happy yet homesick. Hugs to you both.

Hearing you say "I caint" because of your spaghetti arms reminded me of pleasant memories. Whenever I said "I caint" my Daddy said "Caint never could." When he was teaching me something or telling me to do a new thing and I said "what fer?" He would say "cat fur to make kitten britches" which meant to me just do it and in time it would make sense.

Tipper - you spoke of eating stew three days in a row......as a girl and right to today, my family and I all think the flavors meld better with the 'aging' and by the time the stew is finished that is when it tastes the best! Matt I live Fall and winter too. Summer not so much. A soft wind feels so fine. I can sit for hours in the shade with that soft wind caressing my face. I often fall asleep with reading outdoors. Aren't we blessed?

Tipper, you just need a bee hive to make your garden complete. I robbed mine the other day and pull off 12 quarts. I really enjoyed this "reflection" video.

Oh Tipper I just love your family and appreciate you sharing your life in Appalachia with your viewers. You grew up pretty much like I did but I am on the flat land east of Raleigh! I couldn’t believe the first time I heard you say Okry because that is the same way I grew up saying it and still do. My husband Larry, and I made a garden this year and it was beautiful. It was the first one in 20 years. I have been canning beans & tomatoes ,apples, jelly, & making pickles this summer. I am still cutting okra and getting a few tomatoes but that is about it. I would love to meet you sometime & hope to go to Mountain Heritage day at Western Carolina. Last year was my first visit. I saw that Corie & Katie was playing and would love to see them play. We love the girls channel too. In fact I watch it so much Corie & Katie and you too have become household names around our house. 😁 I saw that the folk school is having a fall festival in early October. Will the you all be preforming there? I would like to go to both but just not sure yet. Tipper please continue sharing your life and family with us & we will all keep celebrating Appalachia. 😊

I think I know about jerking the grasshopper....we used to tie strings to them like you do to June bugs. When you give it a tiny jerk, they hop 90 miles an hour. Love seeing your garden time.

The 1st time I was up close on a deer, about 2 yrs sho. She was in the traffic circle ay dusk. And as I entered the circle, she just stood there and looked at me. I drove very slowly past her. She was absolutely beautiful! She took my breath away!!! I never knew how beautiful deer are. 🥰🥰🥰♥️
