Thank you for this review. Instead of dreading having to align my scope when I can only see one bright star, I can look forward to enjoying a night with the starsence!

Thanks for the video, Vlad. I'm not sure why, but after a year I found myself actually getting worse at using the finder scope--often I couldn't "find" the red dot to line of the stars. Finally I gave up and sprang for the StarSense. Alignment has never been quicker or easier. The price is a little steeper than it ought to be, but it was worth it for me.

Glad to hear that you like the gadget! Yeah i totally agree that the only real downside is the price.

Great presentation I just purchased a 8se the light pollution in my area it's pretty heavy I'll pick up a star sense, Hopefully it'll speed up the alignment process.

Yeah if you have a lot of light pollution you will love the device. And as I said it will likely just encourage you to use your scope more.

this is because with heavy light pollution like Bortle 9 (unfortunately I am in it), my eyes can't see more than 3 stars in the sky except Moon and maybe a tiny dot of Venus or Mars. But interestingly, the camera can see more than that.

Does it keep monitoring the sky to keep accuracy during a session, or is it dead weight after initial alignment?
@AVTAstro
@AVTAstro Жыл бұрын
I do not belive it does. Someone correct me if this is not accurate.

Best recommendation is for people who have to travel out of the city lights and set up in the countryside, or that like to travel around with their scope, the start sense is invaluable. will make setup anywhere easy peasy .. I travel around a lot with our Motorhome, so, it works out nicely for me.!

Hey Vlad thx for the video, i guess on my channel i tell the brand new people go none goto. I have seen sooo many quit the hobby cause they think you just turn on the scope and it will go find the objects. alot new people don't understand the 10 min alignment procedure before it finds stuff. This camera costs as much as the scope another downfall. I do have a few goto myself so they can be good, but i think new people should learn the sky constellation first before going goto, but that's just my opinion. Cheers Joe PS your growing nice

I started out with a manual scope back in the day because I could not afford anything else at the time. You know even not having the money for go to at the time aside I'm still happy that I had to learn the night sky manually. Issue is that not everyone is as motivated to learn to star hop, or much more commonly they cannot star hop because of how light polluted thier sky is! Back when it used to volunteer at my act to club I seen both sides of the coin(after helping 100's of folks both old and young). There where about as many people that GOTO helped as it turned off.

@@AVTAstro Hey bud I appreciate the comment back I know it’s a tough decision in the long run it’s probably better for the new people to learn the sky I just tell it I just tell them the goods in the bads and let them decide which version they want anyway cheer see on your next video

@@Astronurd My understanding from what you say is that the go to Mak wasn’t that great but you enjoyed the 8 inch dob? I have a video called what’s the difference between a dobsonian 8 inch and an 8 inch SCT has now become my number one video at over 7000 views but a lot of people tell me they appreciate me telling all the positives and negatives of each

Nice review. What I find compelling is the low cost of Celestron’s version of this technology. A few years ago you found it on only on high priced Go To telescopes. I think it’s great for attracting newcomers to the hobby. Couple it with an entry level video camera and PC, and you’re talking fairly good access to Deep Sky objects at a reasonable price.

It certainly does get rid of the intimidation factor of setting up a scope:) And it sounds like you are talking about EAA. Big fan of EAA especially in a light polluted environment.
