** A little explainer about the 'paid promotion' popup box - KZfaq defines paid promotion as 'accepting anything of value from a third party to make your video'. As mentioned in the video I was invited onboard by Celestyal which means that they paid my cruise fare, I'm never paid beyond this but the gifted cruise fair means I need to tick this box. All opinions are my own and no cruise line has control over my content. ** 🎉🎉 If you are curious about how I make money (selling cruises, website adverts, sales of my course, etc), check out this video >> kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mdKgnchystC3YJc.html

This type of cruise ship is for people who enjoy cruising and seeing different places rather than flow riders, zip lines and water parks. Nothing wrong with the extras that big modern cruise ships have but cruising around Greece is a pleasure in its own right. A top video.

Watching this to go down memory lane for my first cruise on Sunbird...I was 14 or 15 and visiting all the med locations was mind-blowing. I haven't cruised since being a teenager but we were definitely some of the only young people on board! However we loved the fancy meals and luxury and we certainly didn't need all the entertainment I see on modern ships. Lovely memories of my now late parents, and the amazing older couple we made friends with as a family whom we kept in touch with until their deaths X

Wow , your giving me an old education tour. I was on this ship in Sundays in Miami . 1990 I did a ship tours and a luncheon. Every Sunday , as the " song of America" I miss her, and hope her life continues. ❤️Randy Barnes San Diego CA.

I was on her in 1996 and 1998 when she was Song Of America. Out of 30 cruises I have done she is still what I think of for "Cruise Ship" I have so many good memories from being on her. I'm happy to see she has aged well and is still an elegant lady of the sea. Of all the ships I have been on she is the one that I want to go on again, I'd love to do the Greek Islands on her (Last time I did Greek Islands it was on Celebrity). What a great cruise it would be, my favorite cruise itinerary on one of my Favorite ships. If Covid 19 goes away I'll cruise on her again.

oh my - i was on this ship in 1988 - it was only ?6? years old then. it was beautiful and fun and i'm so glad to see it's still cruising the oceans. i went on one of the more modern "resort" like cruise ships and it wasn't like being at sea at all ... and it made me miss this old ship.

Great video. Brought back memories of our first cruise back in 1995 on Song of America. My wife and I loved it. We hope it survives Covid so we can book another cruise on it. You hit all the same likes that we enjoy. Thanks again for the great video. You might enjoy the fact that back in 1995 before computers and internet RCCL gave everyone a list of all passengers and officers on the ship and the city they reside in. Lol. Talk about privacy today compared to 1995.

Thank you so much for this video!! Celestyal seems like the most complete all-inclusive cruise line that doesn't cost you an arm and a leg, and they seem the best one out there for a Greek Isles cruise, because it's an actual Greek company. I'm so glad I found this video! There aren't too many videos (especially ship tours) about Celestyal.

Thanks for sharing the video, I sailed on this ship when she was MS sunbird in 2000. I was only 16 and she has been the only cruise ship I've sailed on, it was really nice to see what she is like now, also trying to guess and remember what each of the lounges and bars were called back then. So thanks again, I love your youtube page.

Hi Emma. i worked for Royal Caribbean and sailed on SOA many times. No she hasn't changed much since her days with RCI. Although the Leda dining area aft, used to be open deck space, before they enclosed that room with the fabric ceiling. There was much more aft outdoor deck space when she was SOA. The problem with SOA was the cabins, and the way the bedding was set up. You did not find many double rooms, i.s. double beds, the twin bedding in that funny format was the norm for that ship, which made SOA hard to book if you wanted particular bedding formats like on more standard ships these days. I went on to become a travel agent after RCI, and found SOA problematic for booking. She is still a beautiful ship and Celestial has done great things with her, and all of their other ships. The schooner bar, was the pirate themed bar on board, and no they haven't changed that room at all. There used to be a huge crystal clock in the reception area, that was particular to SOA, I see they have removed it from that area. The Viking Crown lounge was the last of its kind wrapped around the funnel like that. The first three RCI ships of the 1970's were all built with that feature, it was their signature mark. The newer ships have a crown lounge built into the superstructure but not wrapped around the funnel, so you do see shadows of the former RCI Viking Crown lounge in some format on the later ships these days. Greetings from Montreal. Jeremy

Hey Jeremey! Thanks so much for sharing this. It's lovely to learn more about her. Did she not have any buffet or casual dining when she was SOA? She's still got a lot of deck space compared to modern ships haha. 😁❤️
@jeremy13504 жыл бұрын
@@EmmaCruises Hi Emma, there was not a space solely dedicated to alfresco dining. The main dining room was the venue to eat in. There were buffets on deck, but no space like the leda dining area aft. Once the ship was sold, the upper outer deck space was enclosed for that dining venue. Which gave the ship dedicated space for that use, where before it was aft outside deck. She's gone through changes over the yars, I'd have to look at an old deck plan, because that was a long time ago for me.

The ship looks in an amazing condition for her age. I worked as Second Officer Navigation in 2000 and 2001 when she was the MS Sunbird for Airtours Sun Cruises. Such a lovely ship to work on. I do hope it survives at the end of Covid19.
@stuartblee11193 жыл бұрын
Hey, I sailed on her when I was 16 with my dad in 2000, I remember getting told off because I was filming above the bridge and had the camera light on, the captain sent someone up to tell me to turn it off as was distracting his view. Always remember it.
@stuartblee11193 жыл бұрын
Captain then was Phillip Rendall, I think that was his surname. We spoke to him a lot as he was from Cornwall, the same county as me and my dad. Think he said he was from Truro. We was from Penzance.
@nicholasleonard50613 жыл бұрын
@@stuartblee1119 that was probably me telling you off! At night the bridge is in darkness so the officers of the watch and look out have better night vision. Having lights flashed into your eyes can reduce your night vision for up to 10 minutes. I hope you had a good time on the ship though. She really is a well built and designed vessel which will hopefully survive through COVID-19. Captain Philip Rentell would have been in command at the time. Now retired I believe.

for me, its the best ship in the world. Back then the Sun Cruises product was unbeatable, same with Destiny - a fantastic combo of size, atmosphere and a great vacation. This ship targeted at a UK consumer would still be fantastic today.

For anyone watching his in the future, bear in mind Celestyal contracts are not worth the paper they are written on. A group of us from Australia had fully refundable cruise booked and payed for with them in late 2018, for September 2020. The curise conditions where written as subject to Greek law. When COVID initially started we cancelled and were told (when we checked back every few weeks) that the refund was accepeted and being processed, and asked to be patient. This went on for months, then we were told the Cyprus has changed their law and the cruise line not long had to give refunds until December 2021 and instead were allowed to issue a travel voucher. Enquiries as to what Cyprus law had to do with anything, as the contract was subject to Greek law did not recieve any response. They stopped responding to emails. So they effectively changed the contract on a whim to suit themselves. It was too far down the road for a credit card charge-back, and travel insurace would not pay out because they had issued a voucher. So the ship may be nice, the crew may be fantastic, but the company that runs it are no better than thieves.

The Royal Caribbean expression for the "bar around the funnel" is "Viking Crown". I think that refers to the actual structure (the flying saucer) which is so signature on all but their latest ships. The bars in these structures likely have individual names (like "Olive or Twist" on Liberty) and some of the bar spaces take a much greater proportion of the structure than others.
