I stopped in Covent Garden to watch a young busker @stephensings1 performing songs from stage musicals. He has the most incredible voice. He had just sung a song from Phantom of the Opera, and then something incredible happened....
......a young woman stepped forward and asked him to sing 'All I Ask Of You'.
Stephen replied 'I can't do two Phantom songs in a row'.
The young woman said 'if you do, I'll sing it with you'.
Stephen looked skeptical and asked 'are you any good?'
The young woman replied 'I'm currently Christine in Phantom of the Opera'.
What followed was absolutely amazing and I'm very glad I got my phone out quick enough to record it!!
I feel very privileged to have witnessed such a special moment in person.
This video is also on Stephen's KZfaq channel - Stephen Sings (plus more songs too)

That was an amazing performance by both of them. My only question is, "What the hell is wrong with all those people who walked on by?" This would have stopped me in my tracks. It was a world class performance.

Many of them may have had appointments they need to get to, many of them may have heard the busker before, and of course, most of the people watching them would have been in front of them, not visible on camera.

@@raytrebor Of course they did. Everyone's busy. NO need to stop and listen. A person can buy a $300 ticket to hear the same thing on stage than proudly boast having paid $300 to see someone perform.

@@raytrebor People get so caught up in their own stuff that they don't bother to stop and listen. There was an experiment posted here on KZfaq where Joshua Bell played the violin in the DC Metro on a multimillion-dollar Stradivarius and very few people stopped to listen. Some children stopped, at least until they got dragged away by their parents. I remember when I was in college and I walked out of my dorn to go to class and I saw a large hawk that had caught a squirrel or a rabbit or something and was consuming it on the lawn and everyone was just walking by not looking (and this was before cell phones were as ubiquitous as they are today) and it just shocked me that this beautiful natural wonder was there for everyone to see and no one cared. I stood there for a while to appreciate the hawk before I moved on. Yes, we're all busy people but we could also die tomorrow. And people on their deathbeds never say "I'm so glad I made it to all my appointments on time." I can't even tell you what year in uni it was or what class I was going to, but I will always remember that hawk. More people should stop and listen to the music.

If you only hear the music they sing, you're missing half of the beauty of this performance. You need to watch their interactions with each other. It's just amazing that this all occurred by pure chance. It has my vote for the best impromptu performance by two people who didn't know each other or know of each other. Best of luck to you both.

covent garden market was one of my favorite places to visit when i lived in london. the bustle of the vedors and buyers, the beauty of the old building, and you never knew what magical moment the buskers would present before you! this video brought back those memories and made me wish i'd seen stephen and celinde create this transcendent performance. can i join you, she asks? can she sing? he wonders.. and when she opens her mouth he must be nervous: can i keep up?.. his utter joy and humility when he hears her angelic voice.. her enthusiasm, encouraging him, praising him.. it's as if they had been rehearsing for weeks. perfection.. it gladdens my heart and takes my breath away every time i watch.. every damn time.. thank you!!

@@YORKEE You must have missed the rest of the whole video, she obviously was just encouraging him and obviously he removed his scarf to give himself some kind of boost as singing with a West End star is very challenging. I arrived at Waterloo station about a week ago to meet with a friend. As I got through the ticket barrier, There was that amazing operatic voice feeling the air . I was intrigued and followed the voice . When I got close and saw Stephen, I had to stop and watch for the next 30 minutes, spell bound by his rich warm and powerful voice. I stayed for several songs from Les Mis, then he sang "you ll never walk alone " and "The Unchained Melody" in the most beautiful, moving way I ve ever seen ! Stephen, you were a pure ray of sunshine in the middle of that busy crazy station, you made my day. Later on we went to see a play, which was disappointing so your singing more than made up for it. Thank you ! Don't give up, keeeeeeeep SINGING !!! :-) :-)

Well done Stephen. Busking sometimes takes guts and you pulled it off perfectly. What a moment of a life time. Do you want to do the same with a flaitist? A similar thing happened to me. It only happens when you put yourself out there and Make your own luck. Dont listen to these stupid ads online. Get out there and sing or play! I entertained the Banksy queue for hours. Most people were touched. The staff of Browns weren't so pleased but I ended up playing piano for them. Give it a go and make those connections if you have musical talent

In the arts, they talk of angels - people who help struggling artists become big. Celinde is the angel here. No need to bring out the bucks. No need to vet and hear Stephen's pitch on why he's going to be, "big... someday". And for Celinde, her investment of 4 minutes have raised the value of her artistic capital ten-fold, or more.
