Turn a basic peyote tube into something fabulous by changing bead sizes as you stitch! A Cellini Spiral looks more complicated than it really is.

Excellent tutorial. Very clear instruction with special attention to the little problems that a beader doesn't know she should look for until she is stumped by them. Thanks for your beading wisdom!

props to mama June for making that necklace! It's pretty! I like the tip about more flexibility, that was definitely a problem when I attempted Cellini ages ago. Also: Did a bit of research and it comes about that when Virginia Blakelock first created Cellini spiral stitch, she was a big fan of Benvenuto Cellini and decided to name it after him. So I believe it IS supposed to be pronounced like his name.

Jill I love your tutorials. You make everything fun and simple. I just started jewelry making a year and a half ago. I became bored with stringing beads and quickly got hooked on bead weaving. I’ve been retired for a number of years so I’m a bit old to be starting out. I catch on quickly though. I have tried most of the pieces that interest me and successful made them. I love the daydreamer bracelet and have made several in different colours. Thank you so much for making my retirement years a lot less boring.

The Cellini spiral was originated by seed bead masters Virginia Blakelock and Carol Perenoud who developed the tubular variation and named it after Benvenuto Cellini, a 16th-century Italian sculptor known for his Rococo architectural columns. Eventually, the flat version emerged, and both techniques are equally beautiful

However, a word of caution to anyone attempting this... make sure you have enough beads because the spiral uses lots of them!!! This is the best tutorial ever! I made my first Cellini spiral bracelet and it's beautiful! My question is, how do you make the "teeny cellini"? Less beads AND smaller size beads, or just fewer beads? 2- 15o, 2-11o, 2- 8o?

Thank you, Jill, this is a very helpful and clear tutorial. I have a problem I hope you can help me with. No matter how tightly I make the stitches, I still have lots of thread showing. I am using size 11, 8, and 6, and stepping up and down the sizes from 11 to 8 to 6, back to 8, then 11. But thread always seems to show between the beads. Thanks.

Hi Jill, I am one of your biggest fans. My next "to do" will be to make some Cellini spiral pieces. Thank you for your tutorial. You also inspired me to research the derivation of the name and I found this on "FeltMagnet.com" website... "An Italian inspiration, the cellini spiral was thought to have originated from Benvenuto Cellini, a member of an artist group in the Renaissance Mannerism period, where the figura serpentinata (from Latin - serpentine figure) was used to display human figures in snakelike spiral movements that appealed from all sides. I hope you find this useful. Sandra

@JillWisemanDesigns
@JillWisemanDesigns 9 жыл бұрын
Fanny Moreno The best way to add thread is to add the new thread first so you can make sure it's coming out where the old thread is exiting! Especially on this project - I've goofed it up more times than I care to admit. Because this is peyote stitch, you can simply weave back and forth through the beads, making sure to change directions at least three times, and making sure no thread is showing on the outside.

First, let me tell you, your tutorials were highly recommended to me. I love them because of your detailed, comprehensive teaching methods. I'm not a very advanced "beader," but I love it. I've recently found a pattern for a beautiful Cellini piece and had no problem until the it required a "reverse" of the pattern it created. I haven't been able to conquer the "reverse" in spite of many tries. Although instruction are given, I'm wondering if you have a tutorial on this as it might help to watch rather than just read the instructions. (Or any suggestions how I might get some additional instruction.)
