Dear All, This is a Greek song the title of which is MISIRLOU meaning "Egyptian girl",, written by a Greek person who loved this girl when in Egypte there was living in Alexandria a big Greek community which left Egypte in the decade of 1950 because of political events at that moment. It is not a surprise that the Greeks can write such beautiful songs because they have invented MUSIC 3000 years ago.

I love old Greek music "misirlou" rebetiko song from 1926. Misirlou is name of eguptian girl and Greek man loved her and wrote this song for her.

@@DendyJungle I know its not entirely greek cause the essential melody might've been around for centuries as a folk tune in the Eastern Mediterranean region and Middle East. But the lyrics and the story they are telling were created by a greek man somewhere in 1920's. So I don't consider the main melody neccesarily greek, but I consider Misirlou as a composition a greek song.

Dick Dale my ass. It's a Greek song and tune since 1920. First recorded in New York by Columbia from a Greek singer/artist.

Why are they referring to it as Pulp Fiction Theme? The Pulp Fiction version is a cover of Dick Dale's version from the '60s, but it was played on TV in '50s by Pandit Korla on organ and piano and recorded in 1927 in Greece in orchestra version. It's a traditional song, Miserlou means Egypt girl and it was/is a love song. It was popular with Greeks, Turks, and Sephardic Jews over 100 years ago. It's a great tune whether it's the traditional version, this one, Dick Dale, Korla, Agent Orange and many others.

Thanks a lot for your comment! We know about the fact that the original song is "traditional" and that it is not composed by Dick Dale or especially for Pulp Fiction. That's why we only wrote "Misirlou" in the title and description.

I have listened to this rendition of Misirlou many times. I wonder how having 100 or so cellos playing it changes the music, ie, the interaction of the sounds from each instrument. IN other words, how different is it to play it with just one cello or two, vs the many dozens here.

Dear All, This is a Turkish song the title of which is MISIRLOU(mısırlı) meaning “Egyptian” , written originally as a folk song by anonymous middle easterners, though was played frequently in the ottoman empire(and spread to egypt as well), then it was named misirlou(a greekified version of “mısırlı”) after it was played by a greek person, which then spread to the west. It is not a suprise turkish people can write such beautiful music considering they invented music 5000 years ago as proto-turkic nomads in central asia.
