I can do without the "teenie weenie" baby waby talk. You would think the oldest member of the audience was ten. The titles of The World Science Festival videos sound fascinating and then the hosts never fail to get in the way. They force the "humor" and the "eyes of a child" routine. It is tedious and annoying. The presentation can accommodate the understanding of nonscientists without being infantile. Why waste time on the etymology of the prefix "nano" and whether it is Greek or Roman? "Roman" is not even a language. He gets on his knees like a child and affects a Mr. Rogers persona: "I don't see grippers at the end"..."Oh, that's, to you, a gripper". And soon after, "If you were an atom on an ordinary atomy day...?". And it got worse, "So if you were to simply live at the bottom of existence where the atoms are, you would just find wiggle jiggle, wiggle jiggle, bang bang, wiggle jiggle bang". Who needs this? This is not how science is taught, even in grade school. This is as far as I got. Just could not stand it anymore. He, like an impulsive child, could not let the guests answer his questions without interrupting them repeatedly. I want to hear their stories and not be distracted by the host's nonsense. It made him and his schtick the focus. I have no idea how "wiggle jiggle bang bang" helps the layperson understand the subject better than straight talk. And he came across to me as disrespectful to the guests, starting with his introductions. Hopefully it got better because what I saw was an embarrassing spectacle.

I felt the opposite. The scientists seemed irritated by the host's objections and questions which is the reason they were on the panel. The host was fascinated by it all.

100% agree, I was coming to make that exact comment. I respect the hosts energy and inquisitive nature but there needs to be some restraint and social filter in a setting like this. He approaches the information as a child starting grade school and it’s very distracting and annoying at times. Especially when I want to listen to what the scientist explain the details.

The host did his job well. His job is to be the representation of the layperson, who is unfamiliar with the science, and needs it explained in familiar terms. He challenges the scientists to determine how they reached their conclusions by asking questions instead of accepting everything as dogma. He tells jokes to add levity and keep the conference from being dry and oversaturated with scientific jargon that the layperson wouldn’t understand.

So what happens to the waste that is released in the bathroom, that has a nano particle in it, one that releases drugs, or does other things, like has a sharp knife in it, has a battery in it, computer in it, etc, that do not resolve? How would that effect our water system, our oceans, etc? How would they effect the fish, microorganisms in the soil, etc?

In the case of self operations, would it be useful having a cyber/robotic medical assistant and/or teleguided robotic medical technologies, so a person can be attended at a distance in case an emergency unit is not capable of arriving on time??? And as back up, medical procedures could be already programmed based on succesful prior operations into the remote household medical aplliances...

I agree the host is irritating, but again, he is making it more understandable to the layperson. He tends to ask questions in that effort but for the rest of us who understand much of the technical explanations, this becomes more of an obnoxious aspect of the content and his questions and comments interfere with the intent of the expert's speech by stopping the information in mid-sentence. It is frustrating.

I came in without understanding the technical side or things and I left without understanding the technical side of things because the host was so damn annoying that he wouldn’t let them get a sentence out. I thought they had very interesting things to say and sadly I didn’t get to hear them answer thoroughly because the host interrupted them multiple times per sentence. I believe the host was attempting to make it accessible for people like me but he just way too far and ended up doing the opposite. Maybe other people like it and that’s ok, just not for me. Yikes.

+esp heroz Biochemistry teach you a lot about all this nano things, how it works. Engineering Design is also important, which is not covered in biochem, so I believe its combination of different disciplines to make this work. i think its not really about what course u take, its about where ur job take you to. Even these guys dont start off working on nanotechnology straight away. Sometimes it depends on your project and your self learning, which means your course does not teach exactly what you are searching for, but rather just related to it.

This is 3 years on so I hope you are still interested. You need to major in chemistry, chemical engineering or material science. Pay especial attention to polymer physics, thermodynamics, and statistical mechanics and laboratory techniques involving light, em and atomic force microscopy. For schools try to go to a good undergraduate engineering school then get into grad school with a nanotechnology focused professor. One way to find a good one is to look up the successful nanotechnology companies, then see who are their founders and scientific advisors.

57:00 So evolution is in part about our DNA getting bombarded by radiation from space, having parts kicked out or changed. At the beginning there was one additional perspective needed to answer my following question about large timescales of millions if not billions of years. Can these nano particles avoid getting rid of good mutations? At a time we all would choose to change our DNAs the way we want it to be like a lego structure, that might not be relevant anylonger, till then ... isn't there a chance this could hinder our natural evolution?

Maybe this nano medicine technology could be an alternative way to combat the COVID-19 virus in the host of the human body on the cellular/molecular level by destroying the protein membrane of the corona virus in theory besides waiting for a vaccine to be made available, which at the moment is not available yet.

World Science Festival needs to find a better and more knowledgeable moderator than Robert Krulwich. He talks too much and interrupts the guests and in the end guests are not able to explain and say what they want to say. I want the guests to explain things and he keeps interrupting and conversations become brief and pointless. This should be ask the guest a sensible and intelligent question and then let them talk and explain!

Not only for the food we eat we should must have daily exercise everyday more in Muslims people they're food is making them old mostly they like meat in more of them they don't like to eat vegetables, I remember when I was young we don't have hotdogs on the table, no meat burger because we don't have freezer before we don't need this because we have our own farm if we need chicken there is fresh chicken in our backyard in more vegetables around because my father is a farmer so we had lot of food in our fields especially when hard rains and thunderstorm we can harvest a lot of mushrooms around, mushrooms is not a magic for me they are came from that in the forest we can see a lot of different mushrooms those more you can see cannot be eaten in be careful to select what can be eat or not there is a mushrooms that only second when you put that in your body just within a second you will die because of strong poison in there.

As the middle guy said, "it's exponential now" ..host just doesn't get it lol. I am surprised they didn't mention the new plan to start testing on grown human organs/cells. Therefore no longer needing animals and speeding testing/trials up 1000s of times. The current idea is to send the msg/changes to/via the RNA rather then the DNA to spare us changes via evolution. And also the idea of modifications delivered in a new custom chromosome. At the same time they were asked some questions that are better off asked to an engineer; of which the guy on the left didnt seem to be very active to help there either. In these fields as far as nanobots rather then particles they will probably be engineers replacing DRs in the future as the people you go to for patching up. (If they themselves are even human by then; Watson is already diagnosing and offering treatments far superior to actual Drs. (But of coarse only as a opinion rather then actual decisions.)

The host interrupted way too much. I understand he is making sure they answer questions the “average person” might ask, but he wayyyy over did it in my opinion. So distracting I had to turn it off even though I find the subject interesting.

He would barely let them get a sentence out sometimes. And I noticed he interrupted at really unnecessary times to say something that wasn’t very funny. Again I understand the interviewer tactics but he just went way too far in my opinion.
