I have had chronic recurrent cellulitis in legs since 2005-6. At least once, it turned out to be cutaneous diphtheria.

Just ensure to use prevention after the infection as once you have it once I see a lot of recurring infections.

Good luck. Mine started to dry up. But then it started itching really badly. And it is leaking again. I've been dealing with it for about 2 months now. I can't wear a shoe because my foot became infected. And it's swollen badly. And has sores around it.

It can linger for a while. If swelling in the arm is a constant problem, you should talk to your Dr about arm compression sleeves

Cellulitis is the most pain I’ve ever felt in my life! I swear it’s caused me PTSD. I think of the dibreeding and I cringe! I have to go in daily for them to pack and unpack the packing. That’s terrible also. Makes me want to throw up. I can’t take this anymore. I could barely walk and had to work with it. It started the smallest pin dot painful bump. I’m in disbelief in the level of pain I’ve felt. I have moments where I have flashbacks of me screaming while they debreeded it. Felt like I was being tortured.

I am currently on my second flare-up & it hurts sooooo bad. Yesterday (4/21) was my last day of covid quarantine as I had a fever that kept spiking up to 103.1* over a 4-day span. My husband took me to the ER to find out why the spiking fever for so long. (I've never been sick like this.) To add to the health issues, I woke up this morning with a second flare-up of cellulitis. I woke to swelling, warm to the touch skin, stretched skin, redness and pain so bad, and to make matters worse, it is also past my knee this time. Frankly, I'm getting tired of all this stuff going on, especially at the same time. :/ Anyway, it really, really hurts. One of my aunts had necrotizing fasciitis. I think it was somewhere between '97-'99. It was horrible to have watch her battle that, but she made it & without becoming a vegetable for the rest of her life or having huge areas cut out. There WAS an area cut out, but they didn't have to go all the way down to muscle or bone. When the NF, as I'll refer to it, started, it began as a small patch of warm redness that spread quickly within just a few hours. She was never diagnosed as having cellulitis. Instead, it was straight to NF. Unfortunately, she passed just months after my mom (her oldest sister) passed away in the same year (2016). I thank you for posting your videos about Cellulitis.

I am sorry to hear you are going through all of this. Once you get cellulitis once it tends to be recurrent. Make sure you are taking preventative measures to prevent it from happening.

I had cellulitis on my leg it was awful so painful , was in hospital for two weeks on antibiotics intravenously four times a day , thankfully I got past it but my leg still doesn’t look like it used too you can still where the infection was , it’s something you won’t want to have
@NurseAlyssa39
@NurseAlyssa39 Жыл бұрын
yes once you have it once people tend to get it again unfortunately. My biggest suggestion is if you have leg swelling make sure you are going to your dr. and see if you can wear compressions. when fluid sits this is what causes the infection a lot of the times. If you cannot wear compressions, they need to take other interventions to prevent this from happening.

oh no! that means you have excess fluid that sits there for long periods of time. I suggest talking to your dr about compressions (to see if they are right for you) this will help prevent further complications (sometimes you do need medication)

Can you get cellulitis in both legs? Also, when i went to a specialist, the specialist said it was lymphadema. My primary physician said it was cellulitis. It was leaking fluid, i have a lot of varicose veins. Could that have caused it? I'm starting to get itchy dry skin on my hands and the bottom of my feet? I have an unaboot on my left foot now. Just had it put on this morning. Very annoying and uncomfortable. I am wondering what a bad case of cellulitis looks like?
@NurseAlyssa39
@NurseAlyssa39 Жыл бұрын
Yes, you can get cellulitis in both legs . Lymphedema and cellulitis go hand in hand . If the fluid just sits there, it tends to cause infection, and that's what cellulitis is. I hope they have talked about methods with you to reduce the swelling (eg. Compression)

You can use a non stick contact layer ( adaptic, bactigras, inadine) , with a gauze cover dressing . I normally use kling over that to hold it on as tape in most cases will cause more issues. Make sure to see your pcp as you will need an antibiotic.

Not so much scary just not something you want. that is why when you have swelling in the legs it is so important that we are controlling the swelling using compression.

Any note on length for recovery? Does this redness go away and how hong does it normally take. I have it on my left calf/ankle and it is healing but its swollen, red and has water pockets that developed and of course the skin is tight so walking is precarious, at best but once I get moving I am ok. I put in an ice water bucket and elevate it but just need some time line to gage my healing. Thanks for the video it was a great help. ❤

Ok...I didn't go the antibiotics route but I did get over the infection I believe as I am not vomiting, no fever, chill, body aches as before but I have this red rash on my leg that swells when I walk around to exercise. So what is the rash from...it was hot in the beginning to the tough but now it's normal skin temperature...just swollen and red any thoughts? I appreciate your input. Thank you

I'm assuming there is still local infection without a full assessment I can't say there isn't deep spreading infection. Ensure you are at least using an antimicrobial dressing. If it gets worse please have a dr assess it . Fever and vomiting comes with a very bad spreading infection. Check out my videos on determing infection (nerds and stonees)

@@NurseAlyssa39 yes...and I fear it has entered my ankle bone...I am on antibiotics and pain killers but the pain killer is not strong so it's not helping much. I am in senegal and it seems here they are treating it like a regular infection or have no experience with cellulitis. I don't know. Is there a way to test for infection in the bones and if so what? So I know what to request them to do. I still have a low grade fever which means the infection is there...I am praying the antibiotics will help.
@NurseAlyssa39
@NurseAlyssa39 5 ай бұрын
to check to see if it is in the bone they need to do a bone scan along with a wbc count. they should also if they have not already done a culture and sensitivity to ensure you are on the correct antibiotic.
