Celox hemostat granules are quick to apply, just pour the granules into the injury, before applying pressure and stopping the bleeding. For major arterial hemorrhage, maintain pressure for 3-5 minutes to ensure hemorrhage is controlled. Celox uses Chitosan for the hemostatic agent.

This is the video is the reason I iwn at least $1,000 in Celox patches, granules, packing & a multitude of other clotting agents, a "medical stapler, My aunt's a nurse and I bugged her every holiday we visited untill she brought me downstairs and showd me this rubber arm thing that has different levels of bleeding (it like a adult vsersonnof doctor with just a realistic arm where I learned how to stitch amd where she gave me this what she called a medical stapler (looks like a regular old silver stapler to Me). This is when I was planning on becoming a medic. Good skills to have and I've learned so much more from these videos. Such a great channel.

In prehospital or outdoor situations wind can really send those granules everywhere. Thats why I like the gauze. Great product.

Hey Man! I'm a new subscriber. I've spent a lot of today with ya, watching your vids. I am taking away a heck of a lot of good tips here. I am a person on blood thinners for the rest of my life and I have BIG TIME clotting issues. This video especially has made me realize how ill prepared I am for a serious bleeding event. If there's too much blood you can cut the end off a syringe, cover the tip with your finger and back fill it with the granules if your hands are steady enough. Bigger the better.

Celox now advises against using the crystals direct, as it cause burns. In fact I believe they no longer sell the granules but instead sell gauze and pads

Yeah that was the same thing when I was in the Marines we used a clotting agent similar to that and they said to try to use a tourney then apply the clot agent to a gauze. They then started supplying combat gauze with some already embedded

I was bit by a dog, and used granulars to stop the bleeding. yes it works but once it stop it was very hard to irrigate the wounds for proper healing. It was painful cleaning that burned up stuff off my wounds. It did stop the bleeding. I will switch to the treated pads.

I agree SM, it's always better to be alive and swollen than dead and not. Also, just a production value note: better that you face the sun with it behind the camera so that we can see your face when you're wearing a baseball cap so you don't have to use any lighting equipment outside. I have a patient scheduled this Thursday for oral surgery. She suffers from Von Willebrand's disease. We have a protocol from her physician but I'm bringing some Celox to the surgery just in case. Let's hope I don't have to use it

Ive seen this stuff poured on a wound of a pig they tested. They cut its femoral artery and let it bleed profusely for a few seconds, and then dumped it in the wound. It stopped the bleeding. Very impressive stuff. Dont know if it was this particular brand, but same granular clotting agent

Hey SkinnyMedic, over here in Germany Celox or QuikClot is pretty expensive because it has to be imported and I can't find a German or European-made alternative. I read that most haemostatic agents are based on kaolin. Kaolin is cheaply available here, would you advise to sprinkle kaolin inside wounds? Maybe pack a wound with regular gauze while sprinkling it with kaolin? Or are there strong arguments against putting loose kaolin powder in deep wounds?

I've seen this in action it works. Now I take meds for the heart that mess me up, bruising, thin skin, tears off like a band-aid, and will not stop bleeding in less than 10min. I have used quick clot on those areas works, then wrap it and go back to work. I carry a packet in my lunch box , my question is : how long can the stuff work after opening the bag? mine is 3 mo. old now used it 4x and seems to be fine, is it going to absorb bugs or infectious crap into the wound. Yes get some blood work and get the meds leveled out, work is insurance, no work no insurance.I like your videos, AAR are my favorites.

Can you comment on the differnce between the expensive Celox & the 5 dollar 2 pack version from walmart called Bleed Stop. I have followed your videos and have built a pretty cool trauma bag based on your videos. Thank you for your time in making the videos and I would love to see a video about the difference between the two if any. Celox is expensive and the Bleed Stop is quite affordable. Ps You've inspired me to get my EMT certification, not for a career, but just to improve myself. Thank You.

Celox, from what I understand, is a great product and is saving lives. It is still under patent, so no generics are for sale at a competitive price. When does their patent run out so that the material can be manufactured at a lower price?

I love you channel and came here originally from Sootch, About these granules, forgive me if you talked about this and I missed it - but don't I recall some doctors saying that using the granules was no longer recommended as they had to be more invasive when removing the clotted agent? Or did I misunderstand that? Thanks again, your channel is probably saving lives in more cases than you would ever know.

Let sit until room temperature and place on nice hot grill for 3.5 minutes on each side. Feel free to rotate 90 degrees for them diamond grill marks.

Basicly the chest cavity is so large that it would just eat all your gauze. Also you could risk damaging organs.

@@mattriley8175 - Yeah, after researching a bit I found the same - too much of a hollow cavity and too much risk of putting pressure on vital organs. Thanks for the response - I think perhaps a trauma class is in order if I really want to become knowledgeable about this stuff. 👍

I have a questions I was hoping someone could answer: Let's say I'm in a scenario where I cannot get to a doctor/hospital after I stopped the bleeding using Celox. I'm either out hiking god knows where or it's a complete SHTF scenario (No, I'm not that stupid I would ever go hiking that far without a backup, just imagine). How will I treat the wound after that? Will the granules get dissolved by the body as it heals? Do I need to clean it out before stitching everything back together? I have no medical experience in this field so I would never attempt it, but I'm interested in the aftermath.

According to the manufacturer, you can wash it out. Obviously best done in a sterile environment! It seems to be pretty "safe" and easy to use with very few warnings associated. www.celoxmedical.com for more info. Caveat: I'm not a medic and I've never used it.

I can tell you as a paramedic that the primary goal is to stop the bleed. The other guys said “get to a hospital” but you clearly said what if they isn’t an immediate choice. If it’s bad enough, keep it covered. Don’t ever take the pressure dressing off, especially if it’s an arterial bleed because then you will Potentiate the clotting process, and even then expose the wound to bacteria causing an infection then you will be up shit creek. All I can say is that if you’re out alone and have no medical supplies at all And you’re using this for the scenario and if it’s a heavy bleed, then put this on with direct pressure with multiple 4x4 gauze and killing gauze. If it continues to bleed, rip your shirt, find a sticky and create a tourniquet tight enough to just stop the bleed. Even if the gauze is covered in blood do NOT remove it. Just keep adding more gauze and hopefully that will stop the bleeding enough for you to find help.

So, I have a pack of Celox Granules I had from my last deployment in 2011. They feel almost solid in the package, but I can move them if I wiggle the package a bit. Is this stuff still good? It is tightly sealed and cared for. I Just don't want to open it as an experiment, but I would like to know if this is somethin I can keep in extremis. All my IFAKs now, have new (2019-2021) Celox guaze in them, but I don't want to waste the granules if they are still workable. Any advise on the longevity?

I wish I could afford to have a good kit in my car. Money is tight, and a decent kit can cost over $100 bucks for something that may never get used.

Great videos Skinny, I always learn something new from you. I do have a question for you, I'm sure it's not an easy answer but its something that's always on my mind......In a total worst case scenario where there are no hospitals, doctors, surgeons etc. what is a person supposed to do? In a case where say the femoral artery is severed, you've got the blood stopped but now what you do? I was hoping maybe you could give some input on this scenario.....

I talked with a PA about these products in extended emergency situations. I was told to leave it in place until you get to a doctor or hospital. Your body will just sluff it off like a scab, as you heal.

Mostly it's to keep you stable until you can receive proper medical care. If you need this stuff it's probably too bad for just anyone to patch up.

Pardon my ignorance but why not wound pack the torso? Thanks in advance for your clarification of this point. It may help me save a life should the need arise. Also, do you think that the Celox RAPID Z-Folded Gauze or regular Celox Z-Folded Gauze is better in this application? Please explain why you believe whichever position you take?

If the Celox should enter a vein or artery is there danger of a stroke or heart attack? It is a clotting agent after all.

Not 100% sure, but combat rescuer told me theres no chance on it. It will clot and stick to tissue in the wound.

Yes there have been some cases where a granule of the hemostatic agent has gone up someone's veins and blocked the vein causing a heart attack. It is not a high chance but the risk is there. If it was dying by bleeding to death or living and having a heart attack I would take that.

To your question: If it comes in contact with your eyes it will bind the water on it and also some of the tear liquid following on a drying eye. That's what causes the burning and also can damage the eye. Why: Celox works on a physical basis. It is based on chitosan, a polymer obtained from crab shell. The polymer is able to bind large amounts of water and entangle among themselves. This entanglement forms a strong network leaving behind a gel clot which stops the bleeding. Some more information about gel networks: There are physical and chemical networks. Physical networks like chitosan gain their strength from entanglement of the single polymer chains. No chemical bonds are created and therefore no heat generated. Chemical networks are created by reactions that connect the polymer chains resulting in a gel. Often these reactions are exothermic, meaning they generate heat and could potentially damage tissue.
