My mother’s funeral was held today, December 6, 2023. The service started with this absolutely classical piece of music composed by one of the greatest classical musicians of all time. My mother loved this, and she left this world to the sound of one of the best pieces of music ever composed and performed. What a truly lovely way to say goodbye hearing Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring.

My mother passed away on Saturday, November 11, Armistice Day. After such a long life - she was 97 years old - I am so glad that Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring was played on a CD player as I sat silently weeping in her room at a care home beside her not long after she had died, and remembering her life and the so many wonderful times I had with her. This was one of her favourite pieces of music and a very, very, appropriate piece of music to remember her, to leave this world to the sound of this heavenly piece of music, one of the greatest that has ever been composed.

Actually, Bach didn't write this. Johann Schop wrote it, and Bach arranged it for use in one of his cantatas.

I used to watch this over and over when I was a little girl. It’s one of the reasons why I went into music throughout all my school years. Love seeing it on here and recapturing the fascination I had with all these beautiful voices- especially Chloe’s!

I was delighted with this performance!!! Even Máiréad Nesbitt, known for her extraordinary temperament, has managed to blend in perfectly with the sublime character of this Bach masterpiece. A small "modernization of the arrangement" strengthened the mood. I am not surprised by the ovation in the audience. I also applaud!!!
