In a V Live back in February, Seonghwa said all of the members were surprised by Hongjoong's speech at an event because of how much he improved. Let's hope he continues to grow as a person 😊

I view what Hongjoong did above as his effort to make things funnier as they are in a variety show. I agree that what Jongho did was an excellent way to wrap up the question so that no bad feelings would remain among the group. However, I disagree that the situation above conclusively showed that Hongjoong has bad leadership skills. The reason is that I have observed other leaders participated in the visual ranking game in variety shows. I see their actions as reasonable since their job on shows is to make jokes as long as the jokes do not cross any lines (affecting the group bond), and those lines can only be understood by everyone in the group. The things people are offended by varied from person to person. So if Ateez does not have a problem with using their appearances to make others laugh then the joke above should not be a problem (specifically in the context of Korean culture since Western culture would rarely allow such jokes). Also, another aspect that is important to consider is that Hongjoong was the first member to be asked this question. If he was to say what Jongho said then the mc would have turned to another member with the same question. Although this question is offensive in the Western media, it is the norm for Korean media. So after getting a PC and unfunny answer from Hongjoong, there would be no reason for the MCs not to continue to try to get a funnier answer. I think eventually another member will have to decide on the ranking. So what Hongjoong did gave him full control over how the ranking would be introduced (only the top 4) and provided an opportunity for the next member to wrap things up nicely. Ofc, I don't know if that was his intention or if it was just a fluke. But I don't see the situation going much better if Hongjoong has chosen to make the PC comment right there. The comment he made at the end about how he should have done what Jongho did actually shine a light on how mature Jongho was. Again, I don't know if he was aiming to be funny / to save face (since he could be afraid of appearing less mature than the youngest) or if his intention was to make himself the butt of the joke to make his member look better. But that is the effect of his action, which is interestingly demonstrated by the comment you made complimenting Jongho. I don't disagree that Hongjoong needs to grow as a leader, which is something any leader in a rookie group requires (which is a point already made by another comment in this thread). Also, this does not take away from the fact that Jongho made a very nice comment to wrap things up when he could have tried to give his own ranking to be funny. I only want to provide a new perspective on the situation above to demonstrate that we cannot conclude anything based on the situation described above. Because Hongjoong's intention isn't clear here.
