The Centaur in Normandy In 1944 he formed the Royal Marines Armored Support Group (RMASG) in order to provide direct support in the initial landings that were planned for the invasion of the mainland. The tanks could soon fire on the landing craft as they sailed ashore. To do this, they were fitted with numerical markings on the turret that can be read with binoculars, to align the turrets in the right direction even with smoke obscuring the car's direct view. Centaurs landed on the three English beaches (Gold, Juno and Sword) and were used to destroy obstacles, bunkers and strong points of the German coastal defense. The (RMASG) was ordered to stay on the coast, but the order was ignored and accompanied the troops in their advance inland, fighting against the German 711th and 716th Infantry Divisions and 21st Panzer Division.
