I thought the same thing too at first, but after thinking about it will probably just end up turning into an oligopoly, then when things like this happen everyone will just start playing the blame game making restoration efforts go even slower than they already are. If anything i'd say just start forcing companies to start updating their infastructures accordingly to better handle these types of events.

I have power from the Oklahoma state owned Grand River Dam. The elected officials can not afford to mess with several large industrial parks, one of which Contains a Google serve farm. I love it. cost is very low as well

All I'm saying is, it's a CAT 1 hurricane and there is no power. We still have like 4 months left for storms, imagine a CAT 2 or CAT 3 hit...everyone ends up without power for a month!

This is crazy something is up with CP they haven’t restore power here in sw/Sugar land we had larger hurricanes before and power was restored within hours not days and I feel this is something different

A cat4 hit in 2017 and I never lost power. It doesn't matter how big the storm is it matters how the storm is acting. For a lot of us this storm was mainly wind, literally I saw a house today where a tree was uprooted and fall over a 2 story house knocking the complete second story off the house. My Sister-in-law has 7 different trees either uprooted or sheared in 1/2 all of this from the wind. Harvey was a different breed that sure was a bigger storm but caused more heart ache in the flooding department than Beryl did, where Beryl was just destructive due to the wind. Centerpoint fucked up and tbh they need to pay for it any life lost due to the heat needs to be on centerpoint.

@@concernedcitizen2031 I'm in Galveston and there was very little wind damage. Yet, people still have been without power for days. I could understand being without power for a few hours, but not days from an indirect hit. Then there was the 2021 freeze where we nearly froze to death. I don't know what is up with the Texas grid, but it has zero durability from the elements.

I'm SW near Sugarland. Minutes after the winds stopped they were working. Power was restored about 3 hours later. They worked all hands on deck for 12 hours, then they have to sleep and start shift work. If you don't have power it's because the damage was severe and it takes time to repair.

Stop thinking about what if a cat 2 comes. Literally a cat 4 (Harvey) came and while for some it was bad for most it was not i never onc elost power during harvey but I am without power now. Harvey was a percipitation heavy storm, while Beryl was a wind heavy storm wind is signifigantly worse.

One day and a half after the storm I went out there, not one utility truck in sight; just dead stoplights and peoples driving around looking for anything that was open to buy essentials or food, felt like a ghost town… crickets

Centerpoint positioned themselves years ago as a result of monopolistic efforts but whenever we need them I urgent times they fail us? They are more than compensated for their “emergency disaster efforts “ I think they purposely did not prepare so they could continue to ridiculously bill the state. I would like to know the breakdown of the budget and stop them from being the only provider servicing Harris County and surrounding areas. I bet their lights are on.

@@moment-of-glory I saw one truck today, one truck not sure where he went couldn't find him after that. There are a lot of streets like the one I live on that are literal easy fixes. For me to get power again it will take centerpoint coming and pushing one line fuse back in place power comes off the main road (FM-2100) onto my street there are no downed lines just a line fuse that popped like it was supposed to , all of FM-2100 in Huffman has power now and that one fuse is preventing me from having power.

Center point need to pay for these old people who need help. What happened to the previous person who was in charge. Go find them and have them do this job. Cause obviously somebody not trying to lose their job. Somebody need to get fired. Not just 1 person either. Cause it was a whole lot of texting going on. But some how nobody did their job. We were in the life saving business a week before the storm. We knew the general path of the hurricane, and we knew the temperatures were going to be in the 90s a solid week before. Come on!

Saturday the storm was expected to hit Southern Texas by Brownsville, Sunday Corpus, Monday Morning it hit Madagorda. So he is correct when he says post analysis but for now we need to focus on Power restoration.

@@kodywalker9902 you’re missing my point. This hurricane didn’t just magically appear and surprise us. The general path of the storm was well forecasted, as was the heat and humidity. If both data point were known and I was in the business of keeping “life saving” services on like say….electricity?…..you bet I’d have a plan a week before, and my guys staged days before.

@@lilbuddhapct You can’t well stage your entire crews when you don’t know where the storm is going to hit. If they stationed all their crews near Houston and it hit Brownsville where it was projected to hit then we would have the same issue. It’s about Response and ability to Mobilize. The Low pressure that was over the North US pulled the storm directly North.

@@lilbuddhapct I do agree with you still but there is just no preparing for Hurricanes. We can prepare all we want and still get hit hard. Hurricanes are a B. It’s all about response afterward. As of right now it’s looking good. This is probably the best response Center Point has had to a storm. Every other Hurricane people are without power for weeks or months.

The city and county need to put man power out to help clear downed trees. What about cooling centers. That's what the taxes are for. Why aren't there cooling centers set up?

The county is doing that they have been doing that since monday afternoon. My Brother-in-law works for PCT3 and was assigned to a crew that is working 12 hours a day cleaning debris. But even then the its a lot of trees , on one road I have helped myself clear paths for there were 4 trees fallen across the road.

I live in Pearland Tx which is a suburb of Houston and is about 30 minutes to Galveston straight down I45 and I'm currently sitting in a 97 degree House with the humidity making it feel like 110 and the night is not much better, therefore, I've been feeling queesey at my stomach and fighting headaches, I would most likely be able to handle this when I was younger but at 62 it's killing me, thanks for the life threatening meserary Centerpoint! There is a whole lot of incompetent people who work at that Company, believe me I know.

@@haroldkreye8770 At our apartments in Galveston with no power and people sitting outside with small children or opening every window and door it’s 98 degrees inside the apartments by mid morning . I’ve seen 3 ambulances today take people overcome by heat. Center point said they ordered a post that takes 5 days to get here and several more days to get the pole up. Around 2 wks after the storm we can expect power.

If one lives on the gulf coast, huricanes will come. It will cause damage to trees and houses and power disruptions. Expecting anything else would be unrealistic. This time only lost power for 27 hours with one split tree in back yard. In 2008 has two large trees put holes in my roof and no power for 4-5 days. So consider myself very fortunate today.

Yes, it is definetly triage time, but let's also not forget who let this monopoly happen. This should have never happened and these people should have it looming over their heads of losing both financially and criminally. I am also not talking about centerpointe alone. This is a person in power, government problem. Abbott, of course, no where to be found. They knew about this before that trip and did nothing to cancel or reschedule. Taiwan is not as important to a Texas governor as Texas is; at least that is the way it should be.

Every time there’s a disaster people start the finger pointing. Centerpoint is down here doing their thing. We have hundreds if not thousands of trucks with linesmen restoring power. For reference, I live on the island.
