What The Flick?!

What The Flick?!

8 жыл бұрын

Central Intelligence starring Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart is reviewed by Ben Mankiewicz (Turner Classic Movies), Alonso Duralde (TheWrap and Linoleum Knife podcast), Matt Atchity (www.RottenTomatoes.com) and Christy Lemire (www.ChristyLemire.com).
Read what other critics had to say: www.rottentomatoes.com/m/cent...
The story follows a one-time bullied geek, Bob, who grew up to be a lethal CIA agent, coming home for his high school reunion. Claiming to be on a top-secret case, he enlists the help of former "big man on campus," Calvin, now an accountant who misses his glory days. But before the staid numbers-cruncher realizes what he's getting into, it's too late to get out, as his increasingly unpredictable new friend drags him through a world of shoot-outs, double-crosses and espionage that could get them both killed in more ways than Calvin can count.

Somebody might need to go back and check out Dwayne (The Rock) Johnson's performance in Pain & Gain (2013). The broad vulnerable comedy is there. CI is very good/funny too.

I think the funniest parts of the film were the stuff they showed in the blooper reel during the end credits, I didn't think kevin hart was funny at all, his comedy was toned down ,he wasn't his usual funny self that we've come to know and love., and I didn't really see the chemistry with kevin hart and the rock like kevin had with ice cube for the ride along films. I think the story was ok, we really should've seen the transition for those twenty years that Robbie had to go through from being a nerd in school to becoming a c.i.a. agent. and his character came off kinda gayish as well. I didn't think the supporting cast was good either. this is an ok film if theres nothing else out there to watch, but I wouldn't want to see a sequel at all. maybe they'll have better chemistry in the jumanji reboot , cause if that doesn't work then they shouldn't work together at all ever again.

I'm guessing Christy was surprised because he's a Maori-latino. He's a latino from Miami though, and the latinos of Miami are predominately ultra-conservative (not all, obviously). Most of the liberal part of Miami is North Miami Beach (e.g., Aventura) where the Jews live (thumbs up) and maybe the poorer neighborhoods. Most of the rest of Miami would be considered Tea Partiers if they were white, because they're really zealous about the social conservatism (not just the free market pitch). Besides faith-based reasons, the reasons why the Miami latinos feel this way closely also mirrors why Vietnamese immigrants are predominately conservative too: misgivings about Communism. There's a very large Cuban population in Miami, and liberals are perceived to be close cousins of Communists. I talk about this a lot: if liberals don't find a way to reconcile Catholic doctrine with civil liberties (like abortion), southern California latinos will eventually go the way of Miami. The Rust Belt Catholic Dems are already against us on abortion, which is part of the reason why the USCCB tapped Bart Stupak [D] to be the wedge to divide the Party's health care agenda in 2009. But New England Catholics, for example, are firmly with us. So there's a way to turn these areas around. I dunno how though.

Demographics will do the job for us. The more expendable income and the more education, the less religious a population is. At this point there is more liberal Colombians and Nicaraguans immigrating to Miami instead of Cubans (we south americans don't get along very well with the conservative cubans) We shouldn't change our policies to appease the religious, church and state should be separated as much as possible. Also I wouldn't worry about southern california latinos going to the way of florida, mexicans are far more liberal and 2nd generation mexican-americans (the majority of latinos in the US) even more so. Besides, the republicans scare off more minorities than any party. You just need to turn on the local news in a border state and see the kind of xenephobia being brought forth by the christian right

These guys have GOT to get off of the "homophobia" point.... When you get The Rock to hug Kevin Hart, you're gonna get an 'oh this guys huge' reaction, not 'I'm afraid that he might be gay'. Plus that therapist scene, ya'll that was clearly played up for laughs nearly identical to Hitch, not the studio making a statement. Seriously guys, flip the lens. Try not to watch as critics doing "work" but rather be engaged as moviegoers.

Pausing to say.. homophobia? I do not think the character was supposed to be gay.. he likes 16 Candles and he likes to dance but that does not make him gay, that makes him someone who likes 16 Candles.. what's with the stereo types from the reviewers? The movie doesn't mention anything about homosexuality... someone can be "different" without being gay.. am I lesbian cause I like action movies, DON'T like to dance, and pretty much live in jeans and T=shirts..? That they are trying to say he was gay did not even enter my mind, he is just himself.
@christig6422
@christig6422 8 жыл бұрын
Alright, not even going to watch the rest of this review.. "wearing a unicorn shirt by the way".. and YOU are wearing a (Terminator?) shirt...is that supposed to signal that you are lesbian...? I am not watching the rest of this review.. only the second time I've watched you guys, the other one was for the Divergent review ( really like those movies.. you are such snobs about them..).. won't be back. Really makes me sick when people presume about people. Everyone is different does NOT mean they are gay or lesbian. I had a boyfriend once who was always picked on because people THOUGHT he was gay.. but guess what, he wasn't. Stop stereo-typing.
@thegooseinator9614
@thegooseinator9614 8 жыл бұрын
They mention it because there are a lot of homophobic jokes in other Kevin Hart movies like Get Hard and Ride Along, so the lack of it here shows a maturation.
@thegooseinator9614
@thegooseinator9614 8 жыл бұрын
In other words, it's not that they assumed Bob was gay because of the shirt, it's that they expected a guy in a unicorn shirt in a Kevin Hart movie to be the butt of homophobia jokes and were pleasantly surprised to see the movie refrain from stooping that low.
