An instant hair-testing kit to screen for drug use is being evaluated. If successful, Singapore's Central Narcotics Bureau said this will enhance its testing capabilities and supervision regime. This method is more hygienic compared with urine tests that are now done onsite. Apart from this innovation, anti-drug efforts are also focusing on the growing number of young abusers. At the annual CNB workplan seminar, it was revealed that 16 people under the age of 16 have been arrested for drug offences in the first four months this year, compared to 24 for the entire 2023. Aslam Shah reports.

The fact that cartels profit so greatly from the drug trade is directly tied to how strictly drug prohibition is enforced.

Weed is a "less dangerous drug" and Singapore should declassify it as class A drug. Singapore should legalize weed for recreational use. If this law gets passed, users would have to shave clean after use.

The strictest drug laws in the world, however, are already in place in East and Southeast Asian nations, and the majority of them also include the death sentence for drug traffickers.

It is challenging to enforce drug prohibition since there is no "victim" to call the police about a drug sale because it is between a willing customer and a willing seller.

However, even if it were strictly adhered to, the consequent supply shortage would only drive up medicine costs on the illegal market.

When it comes to drug prohibition, the government makes sure there is no legal competition, allowing criminal organizations to monopolize the market and make money off of monopoly profits.

Due to this, drug cartels want keeping drugs illegal. Drug cartels would be rendered ineffective and the criminal market would be destroyed if drugs were legalized and controlled (like alcohol).. [2]

Mr. Shanmugam mentioned that between 2009 and 2016, hundreds of new psychotropic drugs were created. But once more, this is just a side effect of the drug war.

As a result, more people are financially motivated to participate in the drug trade, which increases the number of drug traffickers.

This demonstrates that the "death penalty deterrence" is not, as Mr. Shanmugam asserts, effective.

This is the reason why drug trafficking continues unabated despite the death penalty.

Drug abuser mostly started off as smoker; ban smoking to stop drug abuser.
