A lovely classical tune, played with brio, ruined for me by the comments! This was Beethoven's compliment to Johann David Ludwig Graf Yorck von Warthausen, Generalfeldmarschal of the Prussian army, whose defection from the Grand Army revived the Prussian resistance to Napoleon. The March has NOTHING to do with either Yorkshire or the Yorkshire Regiment, but is named after Yorck, so, Yorck's March.

For those flailing around for the regimental March of the Yorkshire Regiment, in typical cheeky British fashion, it is the Ca Ira, the Carmagnole, the French revolutionary anthem before the Marseillaise swept it away. Trust the British to take over an enemy tune and make it a regimental tune. Their hijacking of Sarie Marais , and the Preobrazhensky no longer seems strange.

@@schattensand ??? sue for copyright? you that at that time it was pretty common to take inspiration from other army marches after you defeat them right? The russian did the same with some of their music.Btw even the greatest composers took samples from other musics . Prussen gloria was written after the franco prussian war , the music i told you about had become the official song of the imperial guard under napoleon III. The song was written right after the end of the war and took inspiration directly form the song from the imperial guard, and as i told you the song we can hear today isn't the original prussen gloria, it was rearranged in the early 20th century . And if you were curious enough you just have to look at the partitions to see the similarities. bt behind prussen gloria do you?
