Princely State of Chamba was not part of Dogra rule. Ist sikh war 1845 resulting defeat of sikh forces by britishers leads to treaty resulting transfer of hilly & mountainous country b/w beas & indus to british. Another treaty transfer all hilly & mountainous country b/w ravi & indus including CHAMBA to Gulab Singh. Chamba chief had been tributary of sikhs, objected to it occupying same position under Gulab Singh. Chamba chief claimed Bhaderwah in virtue of sanad granted by Maharaja Ranjit Singh. Ultimately an agreement was come whereby Gulab Singh acquired taluk Lakhanpur in exchange of Ravi portion & Chamba surrendered claim of Bhaderwah.

@@apuravrathore8427 Bhaderwah state had long been tributary to Chamba. Nathu wazir of Chamba after facing defeat on padri pass went to Maharaja Ranjit Singh & obtained help with a sanad of transfer, advanced 2nd time in AD 1821.The Raja of Bhaderwah finding resistance hopeless & demolished fort & fled away & never returned.From 1821 AD Bhaderwah was annexed to Chamba state.

@@kartiksinghchambyal1384 then how come bhaderwah became a part of erstwhile j&k state? Chamba forces under the command of Gen. Nathu ram lost badly to bhaderwah forces under Shagtu kotwal(very famous in bhaderwah folklore). After repulsing the action for days Shagtu kotwal presented himself before Maharaja Gulab singh for accession of bhaderwah with then J&K state. Yes Bhaderwah had been a tributary to chamba in the past but because of all these happenings it became a part of Jammu and Kashmir. Otherwise even today the culture is quite similar to chamba and adjoining Himachal.

@@apuravrathore8427 Bhaderwah became a part of J&K after 1846 bcz sikh forces were defeated by Britishers as I have already mentioned above. Fight b/w Nathu wazir & bhaderwah forces fought in 1820 & from 1821 onwards Bhaderwah was under direct control of Chamba. In 1836 General Zorawar Singh attacked Bhaderwah fort which was strongly held by Chamba forces but Dogra forces had to retire bcz additional forces were sent from Chamba. After 2 yrs Paddar in Chamba territory & Bhaderwah was annexed by Zorawar Singh. With the death of Nathu wazir in 1838 leads to great loss of Chamba.
